Left Bank – Latin Quarter Tour

Free tour of the Latin Quarter. Pay what you want at the end of your tour

This Left Bank walking tour explores Paris’ famed Latin Quarter – the land of students for 1,000 years, and possibly the world’s single greatest source of artistic inspiration – from Picasso to Wooddy Allen and Jack Kerouac, and from Hemingway to Cyrano de Bergerac.

The Tour

We meet at Notre Dame and jump across the river towards Sorbonne University, all the way to the Pantheon and the Luxembourg gardens.

We run into winding streets and smoke-filled (though not any more!) cafés where Parisians grow up and come of age.

This Latin Quarter tour is an exploration of old Paris and modern-day Parisians all at once.

The tour may end at several spots near Pantheon, depending on the participants’ particular interests that day.

Highlights

  • Sorbonne University, the Pantheon and Luxembourg gardens
  • Student drinking holes and elegant café terraces
  • The haunts of the Unicorn, Cyrano de Bergerac, Hemingway and even Italy’s Dante Alighieri
  • Place de la Sorbonne – student traditions and rites of passage
  • Where to find the blade of the Guillotine
  • Photo opportunity galore – including an unconventional view of the Eiffel tower

Everyone who was 18 once should take this tour for its intoxicating combination of bohemian student cafés, history-filled alleys, reveries about making the world a better place, and casual Parisian fashion.
