The Best French Cafés near the Eiffel Tower

Updated by Vanessa M in August 2023.

Where better to dine in French flair than right after a walk past the iconic Iron Lady? The streets surrounding the Eiffel Tower are littered with traditional French cafes that really give the whole experience that little extra something…

These are cafes I would personally recommend (I spend a lot of time in this neck of the woods, in case you didn’t know).

A Brief History of French Cuisine

Frame Brasserie in Paris

This authentic brasserie snagged the perfect spot right next to the tower itself. You can enjoy the views of the structure as you drink and dine, and the cafe is open from morning until night, seven days a week.

For what its worth, this isn’t going to be the most mind-blowing French cuisine you have in Paris. In fact, your food could take well over an hour to hit the table. That said, it’s a great cafe for a drink, some cake, and to enjoy the ever-festive playlist that they offer their patrons.

La Fontaine de Mars in Paris

This chic cafe is famed in this neighborhood, identifiable by the baby pink awnings that frame the arched entrances.

Those who know this cafe, love it. It’s one of the most charming spots in the area, and they do a fantastic lunch and dinner menu, also seven days a week. As expected, this place is full pretty much all the time. You’ll need to make a reservation if you want to really sit back and enjoy.

If they’re overwhelmingly full, consider grabbing a takeaway and finding a spot on the Champ de Mars, just in front of the tower.

L’Éclair in Paris

When I’m looking for a Parisian escape without actually leaving Paris, this is the cafe that I head to. It’s cozy as heck and it offers a very different experience to other cafes in this area.

Morning or night, you’ll enjoy a range of dynamic dishes to suit the respective mealtime. The food is always good, and their hot beverages come with a tiny chocolate to sweeten the deal. Top tip: Don’t put the chocolate into your coffee or tea! Seems obvious but a lot of people make this mistake at first visit (myself included). It’s meant to be enjoyed as its own independent treat and will make your drink incredibly bitter if you toss it in!

Zia in Paris

Zia is a wonderful cafe furthest from the Trocadero side of the Eiffel Tower. The cuisine is French fuzed with other western flavors, giving diners a more varied range of meals and drinks.

Many wouldn’t consider Zia a traditionally “French cafe”, but I find the way that it operates to be on par with most of the other cafe in the area. What’s more, there are great options for vegetarians here, something that French cafes usually lack in.

Carette in Paris

On the opposite end we have Carette, right on the edge of the entrance to the Trocadero. Carette is about as French as it gets, and is considered as being one of the best cafes in all of Paris.

Whether you’re looking for breakfast, pastries, brunch, lunch or a three course dinner menu, Carette has it all. You can come here virtually any time of day and except a vibrant buzz of people sipping on high teas, beers and/or wine.

Carette is famed for their hot chocolate…something to keep in mind when you visit.

Carmine Cafe is a busy cafe bistro in a charming French setting right on the outskirts of the Eiffel Tower. Happy hour is daily until 8pm, thereafter the cafe is open for a further few hours until closing (2am).

Again, this is a spot where the time of day seems to fall away, and a consistent buzz of people is always to be expected. Something unexpected, however, is that Carmine Cafe makes some really great pizza? Super tasty, reasonably priced and all with a view of the Iron Lady herself… what more could we ask for?

Le Café du Trocadéro

Among the many cafés in the vicinity of Place du Trocadéro Café du Trocadéro has the best view of the Eiffel Tower. The café is a popular alternative for people looking for peace and quiet while admiring one of Paris’ most renowned sites.

The atmosphere is typical of French large Cafés and the cuisine provided is nicely made. While Café du Trocadéro is more of a casual café than a formal restaurant, it is a great place to unwind, sip a cup of coffee, and drink up the magical ambiance.

While the menu is focused on lighter meals it offers a delectable range of pastries and light nibbles. Of course, costs are in line with such a tourist destination, and a coffee will cost twice as much as it would in a regular local café. Come prepared.
