The Best Cafes near the Trocadero

The Trocadero is a well known public assembly point that overlooks the Eiffel Tower and Champ de Mars. For some, it’s the perfect viewing deck for the famous Iron Lady, and tourists gather daily to have their photograph taken with the structure in the background.

For others, namely locals, the Trocadero is a chaotic meeting place within the 16th arrondissement. From here, you can venture into any direction to enjoy the restaurants, cafes and shopping amenities that this district has to offer.

Here are a few worthwhile cafes to check out if you’re ever in this area. Note that this neighborhood is very traditionally French; you won’t find the same kinds of trendy-cafes here that you would in the 4th or 18th arrondissements.

A quick history of the Trocadero

Café du Trocadéro in Paris

Slap bang in the center of the Trocadero is the renowned Cafe du Trocadero. A traditional Parisian cafe, one can show up at this establishment at sunrise or midnight, and receive the same menus and service no matter the hour.

Cafes near Parisian tourist attractions are notoriously disappointing, usually because they don’t really have to try hard to make money. The Cafe du Trocadero has never become complacent with their quality, and continues to surprise even the locals with how top notch their food, coffee and service is.

To cater to the foreign palate, the cafe has recently added some more modern dishes to their classic menu — a poke bowl being one of them!

There is a partial view of the Eiffel Tower from the cafe, though in the spring and summer the trees tend to obstruct the path.

Carette in Paris

Right next to the Cafe du Trocadero is another noteworthy cafe with Eiffel Tower views. Carette is technically a tea house, and offers a much more intimate dining experience compared to the spot next door.

Carette is probably the only cafe near the Trocadero where Parisian locals will agree to eat at. They’ve got a very good thing going here: great food, tasty pastries, and a beautiful sun-filled space.

Note that Carette is only open from 7 to 7. You can have a wonderful breakfast here, or even a late lunch with some middle-of-the-day desserts. If you’re on a budget, order your meals to go and eat them on the lawns in front of the Eiffel Tower — they’re much cheaper when you don’t dine in.

Le PoinCaré in Paris

Le PoinCare is a short walk from the front of the Trocadero, deeper into the city and further away from the chaos of the tourist attraction.

This is another traditionally French spot that is open from the crack of dawn right though to the stroke of midnight. Locals love coming here for a nightcap once all of the travelers have retreated to their caves for the evening.

I love this spot because it’s not as overpriced as the other dining options in this neighborhood. Their French onion soup is a must-try, as is their ceviche. The ambiance of this cafe makes for a great dinner dining spot, and the music is always on point!

XVIe Avenue in Paris

If you want a quiet, top quality cafe dining experience near the Trocadero, then XVIe Avenue is the spot.

You’ll need to walk two blocks north from the Trocadero itself, and you’ll eventually come to a quiet road where this cafe is the star of the show. Expect reasonably priced French dishes with some of the best wines in the region.

The food here is rich, creamy and filled with meats. This isn’t a vegan-friendly cafe by any stretch, but a great option for those who are partial to animal products. You can expect to lose yourself in this space for the better part of your evening; time seems to melt away in good conversation and wonderful gastronomy.

Paris Follie’s in Paris

Despite being a traditionally French cafe through and through, Paris Follie’s markets itself as a chic brunch spot.

There is a consistently cool and laid-back ambiance at this cafe, as it is far enough away from the Trocadero to have never become a tourist trap. Locals to the area love this spot.

If you’ve been intending to try classic French dishes while in the capital, this is a great place to do so! Think steak tartare, duck confit, and frog legs for days!

For those who are less adventurous with their palates, there are delicious pastas and chicken dishes on offer. All of the servers speak English and French, so ordering is easy (though you’ll always make someone’s day just by attempting to ask for food in the local tongue — just saying).
