Top 8 Kosher Restaurants in Barcelona

Almost on par with halal food, kosher restaurants in Barcelona are very much few and far between.

The few that exist tend to congregate near the Liceu metro station in the heart of Old Town. They also tend to be slightly overpriced because of the severe lack of options for kosher diners in the city; they know you have no choice but to pay up.

When you gotta eat, you gotta eat. Here are the only eight kosher restaurants in Barcelona.

1. Delicias Restaurant in Barcelona

Delicias insta actually one of the Liceu cluster. Instead, this restaurant is more inland, toward the neighborhood of el Carmel. It’s a convenient distance from the Park Güell, keep this in mind.

It’s a fully kosher menu and the cuisine is traditional Catalan with a slight mix of Israeli.

Being one of the only kosher restaurants for a good few miles, there tends to be a queue out the door at all times of the day. Surprisingly, this is not an overpriced restaurant, even though it very well could be given its uncompromising popularity.

2. BenBen Kosher House in Barcelona

BenBen is the newest kid on the block and is changing the kosher game in Barcelona very slowly, but very surely.

This is a kosher shop with a restaurant attached to it. They have cheese, wines, meats, breads and many imported Israeli products that you won’t find in regular grocery stores.

It’s a wonderful spot for a kosher deli sandwich if you find yourself in the area.

3. Restaurant Maccabi in Barcelona

Did someone say kosher paella? Restaurant Maccabi is the first of the Liceu bunch, and probably my favorite.

Yes, you’ll be paying roughly €15 per pan, but they can be shared between two with the addition of sides. They also do a chicken paella, which is surprisingly popular despite being completely against tradition.

There are also schnitzels and burgers on the menu. It really is a great place for kosher eaters to be able to return to and not have to eat the same cuisine every time. Staff are fluent in Spanish, English and Hebrew.

4. Shaq Shuq Kosher in Barcelona

The next of the Liceu cluster is Shaq Shaq, which is equally as great just with less cuisine variety.

Here you’ll eat traditional Israeli just as the homeland intended. Kebabs, shakshuka, mezze and more; the food isn’t cheap, but you’ll leave incredibly full and satisfied, they do not skimp on portions.

There is live music in house ever Wednesday and Sunday evening. Booking for both of these days is necessary.

Note the very generous opening hours of Shaq Shaq. One can dine all meals of their day here in a safe kosher environment if they so desire.

5. Ilan’s Burger Bar in Barcelona

Barcelona needed kosher burgers, and Ilan decided to provide.

At Ilan’s Burger Bar you’ll enjoy a fully fledged American diner menu of burgers, wings, fries, onion rings, tenders… the works. Ilan, the kind stranger, also went and created a separate Shabbat menu that is available once a week. Really nice kosher desserts on offer as well.

The opening hours are what need some attention; every day is different at Ilan’s. Sometimes lunch and dinner service, sometimes only lunch, sometimes only dinner, sometimes a siesta in-between. It’s a bit of a lottery and something you must check in with before you head through.

6. El Falafel de Shani in Barcelona

Where to eat kosher for under €5? El Falafel de Shani is the place!

A very basic menu of falafel either on a plate or in a wrap; but all of the ingredients are 100% kosher certified, right down to their tahini sauce.

It’s more of a street kiosk than an actual restaurant, and there is nowhere to sit. Grab and walk!

7. Falafel Vegano in Barcelona

Falafel Vegano is el Falafel de Shani’s only competition. Barcelona has no shortage of falafel on offer, but these are the only two that bothered to make their menus kosher.

Falafel Vegano is a similar concept; a street kiosk with no seating space where you can order fresh, hot falafel balls in a shawarma or on a plate. 100% kosher, 100% delicious.

8. Starc Catering Kosher in Barcelona

DELIVERY ONLY

Mark my words: Starc Catering kosher will be opening up an actual restaurant in the coming years. The’d be crazy not too; their kosher delivery menus are the talk of the town, an actual restaurant would thrive in Barcelona’s center.

Starc will cater your event, Shabbat dinner, family gathering or even just your breakfast in your Airbnb. All you need to do is text their SMS line and discuss your needs. They can do any cuisine within reason.

Sufficient notice is preferred, but last minute delivery is usually not an issue.
