Eat Halal in Barcelona

Eating halal requires that the animal giving the meat in question must be killed under a very strict, very religious set of practices. For this reason, not every meat serving restaurant around the world is automatically halal, and most spots that are will go out of their way to make their stance known.

Eating halal in Barcelona can be particularly difficult, especially if you don’t know where to go. At this time there are no restaurants serving the local cuisine under halal certification, but one can find a number of international cuisines that do. Here’s where to go.

Haveli Bcn Restaurant in Barcelona

Neighborhoods with a high immigrant community in Barcelona are generally good places to start looking for halal food. I always recommend people walk down into Poble Sec after their free guided walking tours in the Old Town to see what diversity exists here.

Haveli is a Pakistani restaurant and all of their meats are halal. You’ll eat curries, breads and a few grilled meats. Vegetarians need not avoid this spot as they have an extensive menu for you as well.

Adil Tandoori in Barcelona

Adil Tandoori is the nearest halal food I was able to find to the Gaudi’s Güell Palace tourist attraction, juts north of Poble Sec.

It too is a Pakistani restaurant, and is wonderfully authentic right down to the mint tea that they serve after your meal.

By Barcelona standards this is also an incredibly affordable spot to enjoy a hearty, warm meal in the city.

Zeeshan Kebabish in Barcelona

Not far away is another halal certified eatery that revolves around kebab meats.

Zeeshan is a place where all diets can come to eat, but kebabs are the specialty and they really know what they’re doing. You’ll also find all the regular Pakistani curries available as well, if skewered meat is not in your interest.

A laid back, no frills restaurant where the whole family can eat for little more than €10 per person. I could dip their garlic naan bread into olive oil and be satisfied with just that as my meal — phenomenal.

La Estrella del Norte in Barcelona

The internet classifies la Estrella del Notre as a Moroccan restaurant in el Raval. It’s more so a fusion canteen, where one can indeed dine Moroccan, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean and some Asian under one roof.

Everything is halal, and for good measure they do a portion of paella each day, which is probably the only halal paella Barcelona has on offer.

A full plated meal will cost no more than €6, if you want to dine on seafood then it might go up to €12.

La Fíbula Restaurante Árabe in Barcelona

La Fíbula, on the other hand, is a Moroccan restaurant through and through. Here the entire menu is traditional and fully halal.

Portions are generous, their tajines are cooked to perfection, as is their mint tea, and you can dine tapas style quite easily using their mezze menu.

Lamb lovers beware that lamb tajines contain a lot of bones! Don’t be perturbed when this lands up on your plate.

Malaysia Express in Barcelona

Gracia has a lot of things: history, community, guided walking tours… but halal food is not one of them.

Malaysia Express is, as far as I know, the only halal eatery serving this northern district in Barcelona. As a result it is widely loved and very popular. Whats more, a fully halal Asian restaurant is rarely heard of in European countries.

Traditional Malaysian cuisine all prepared under the halal criteria. Tasty, inexpensive and a great spot for both meat eaters and vegetarians. Excelente!

La Caravana in Barcelona

The halal dining community of Barcelona regards la Caravana as one of the gems of the city. This is a fully halal, Syrian restaurant with a menu that is incredibly simple but incredibly delicious.

Not that this matters to halal dining or not, but their falafel is also some of the best in Barcelona. Never dry, always balanced; a real treat if you’re a vegetarian or vegan dining here with friends.

Spice BCN Amigó in Barcelona

Spice BCN is a very simple concept that does very well in the city, especially since all of their chicken is completely halal.

This is a chicken restaurant where you can enjoy variants of the animal in different sauces and with different sides. Over rice with their secret house sauce is not most popular, but they also do a great roti wrap and roasted potatoes.

A hearty place for a homestyle meal that is halal friendly.
