Charlotte Hornets Date With Destiny Separated With Three Seconds

Tuesday, May 16, 2023, saw the much-awaited NBA Draft Lottery take place in which the lucky teams got to know what positions they were going to get their pick in the upcoming draft set for June 22, 2023.

Going to the draft lottery, the Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets were tied with 14% as the teams with the highest probability of landing the number one draft pick.

The order of the draft lottery saw San Antonio Spurs win the first pick with the Charlotte Hornets coming in second and the Portland Trail Blazers closing in third. The Houston Rockets got fourth and the Detroit Pistons summed up the top 5.

Charlotte Hornets getting the second overall pick came as a surprise as they only had a 12.5% chance of getting the first pick surpassing the Houston Rockets and Detroit Pistons.

Coming in second in the lottery means that they might miss out on Victor Wembanyama who is projected to be the first overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Victor Wembanyama is one of the highest prospected players to ever get into the NBA with his buzz being compared to that LeBron James received back in 2003 when he was getting to the NBA.

Victor is expected to be the first overall pick and up until the draft lottery teams were drooling at the first pick so that they get a chance to land him.

Victor is 7’4″ tall, has an 8-foot wingspan, and shoots the three-point arc with accuracy. He is well-known for both his talent and his general playing style.

Due to his alien-like height, Victor is bound to find it easier to complete some tasks that other players cannot. Thanks to his strong ball-handling skills and quick first step, he can outrun the defence despite his tall stature and make the shot. His shooting is precise and lethal beyond the arc, so he will be just fine.

That’s just a glimpse that shows us why Wembanyama gets so much buzz and why the hype surrounding him is that astounding.

Well, it looks like the lucky team in this case is the San Antonio Spurs who got the first pick and will be looking to add Wembanyama to their franchise.

This comes at the expense of the Charlotte Hornets who were three seconds away from getting the first pick.

Going by various reports from basketball experts including ESPN, Wembanyama is projected to add more than $500 Million in the Franchise where he lands and his effects will also trickle down to the team and its surrounding.

That means the Spurs will get a chance to experience this first-hand at the expense of number 2 placed Charlotte Hornets who were so close.

Charlotte Hornets is Co-owned by Michael Jordan who is looking to sell his share in the team and he would have been a lot richer selling his stake with Wembanyama in it.

The Mirror states that Michael Jordan could have pocketed an extra $278 million if the Charlotte Hornets got the first pick and landed Wembanyama.

Losing the chance to earn an extra $278 Million looks like a big loss for the six-time NBA champion but it is not game over yet.

The Spurs might decide to go with Scoot Henderson who thinks he will be picked first overall and the Hornets might get the date with the destiny of drafting Wembanyama and finally getting the trickle-down $500 million.

We just have to wait and see what happens come Thursday, June 22, 2023.
