Borussia Dortmund’s final day slip up Gifts Bayern the Title

On a dramatic final day when Borussia Dortmund lost their lead, Bayern Munich defended their Bundesliga crown.

Dortmund led the Bavarians by two points going into the season’s 34th game. The Bavarians had lost to RB Leipzig at home the previous week, giving their rivals the advantage. When Jurgen Klopp was in command, Edin Terzic’s team had been aiming for its first championship in 11 years.

The visitors scored twice in the first half before a dramatic comeback kept them from defeating Mainz at home, though. Dortmund scored with 20 minutes left in the game and then equalized in the sixth minute of added time, but they were unable to score the game’s third and most important goal. But because of their deadlock, Bayern was able to take advantage at Koln and win 2-1 to pick up three points and maintain their lead in the Bundesliga. In the 88th minute, Jamal Musiala, a substitute, scored the winning goal.

With Jude Bellingham possibly leaving this summer, Dortmund’s best chance to win the German championship in more than a decade was lost. A full Signal Iduna Park was stunned to see several players slumped motionless on the field after the final whistle.

Thomas Tuchel, on the other hand, has been successful in saving Bayern’s season. In March, the Bavarians made the decision to fire Julian Nagelsmann and bring in Tuchel as his replacement, citing worries over their progress as justification.

However, Tuchel has had trouble getting Bayern moving, as seen by his less than 50% victory rate. However, Dortmund’s error ensures they have won the championship for 11 years in a row. Those at the Allianz Arena were facing a year without a trophy due to their failures in the Cup and in Europe.

Tuchel had made the claim that their season wouldn’t be successful even if they won the championship in the days leading up to the final day.

 “It’s our own fault, our own responsibility. Of course, we’ll try to run the race to the end because we’re obliged to give everything to the end.

“It won’t be a season that we can be happy with. It won’t be a season in which the number of points is enough for our demands, in which the quality of our game is enough for us. Regardless of how it goes in the end, it won’t be a satisfactory season anymore.”

However, on a sad note, immediately after Bayern was confirmed champions after 90 minutes, Bayern’s CEO was been dismissed. Oliver Khan was dismissed as FC Bayern CEO right after winning the title. Dreesen will be the new club’s CEO. It was noted Khan was not in attendance for the final, title game.

Bayern Munich sets a legacy to be crowned Bundesliga Champions for 11 years while on the other side, it is a day that the Borussia fraternity would wish to forget.
