French Prodigy To Spurs Is A Done Deal
The NBA playoffs are still on but the world is still buzzing on the hype that surrounds 19-year-old French phenom Victor Wembanyama.
The hype gets even hyper in Texas, especially San Antonio given the native team won the right to pick first overall in the 2023 NBA draft set for Thursday, June 22.
Going into the draft lottery which was held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, the San Antonio Spurs, Detroit Pistons and the Houston Rockets had the highest odds to draft first at a 14% probability.
The Spurs however were the lucky team getting the first pick ahead of the Detroit Pistons who got fifth and Houston who got the fourth pick.
With the San Antonio Spurs being the front runners to pick first overall and with no signs they will trade their chance to get the first pick, it is a no-brainer they will pick Victor Wembanyama.
Victor Wembanyama is the highest prospect to ever get in the NBA in over two decades, the other one being LeBron James.
The hype and buzz surrounding Wemby have also been compared to what LeBron got during his time getting to the NBA. Victor is expected to be the first pick and it looks like a done deal that he will end up at the AT & T Centre where the Spurs call home.
We could tell that the San Antonio Spurs were thrilled about the prospect of selecting Wembanyama in the 2023 NBA draft by looking at Peter Holt Jr.’s response after the San Antonio Spurs won the lottery for the first pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.
The same feeling is supplied to French natives who were seen on the streets ecstatic given the history the Spurs have with French players Tony Parker being the most notable one.
The pomp and thrill are however not shared with bettors who often look to make an earning from gambling.
They are expected to not reap from betting on Victor going to San Antonio Spurs as a sure bet which is not the norm every bettor would want.
According to the Guardian, the odds on odd makers indicate that a $100 wager on the Spurs to select Wembanyama would return only 50 cents to the bettor.
This is not good news for gamblers who were looking to bet on Victor going to the Spurs but the news of Victor to the Spurs excites everyone else.
It looks like betting on San Antonio Spurs selecting Victor is a losing bet and although it’s on the betting odds it won’t reap a gambler any windfall.
Considering all the odds point to Victor going to the Spurs, it is just a matter of time before it is confirmed.
Looking like a sure bet right now but the question that we can’t stop asking ourselves is, what if the Spurs don’t select Wemby?…
