Wembanyama is synonymous with greatness with his reputation growing day by day especially now that the NBA Draft Day approaches.

June 22, 2023, will see Wembanyama join the NBA and his prowess has ensured that he gets attention from many if not all NBA teams with most of them salivating at the idea of landing Wembanyama on their roster.

Projected to be the first overall pick in the upcoming draft, Victor will for sure take the NBA by storm.

It has been two decades since we witnessed such a talent come to the NBA with the last one to get such hype being LeBron James back in 2003.

Victor Wembanyama’s African Connection

The May 16, 2023 draft lottery saw the San Antonio Spurs win the chance to draft first overall and they will most likely add Wembanyama to their roster.

With things looking already set and Victor having his eyes on the prize once he joins the Spurs, the idea of possible trades across different teams is not something we can generally overlook.

What if the Spurs trade their first pick and forfeit the chance to draft Wembanyama for another opportunity?

A possible scenario that has been brought up by a mock draft trade by ESPN is the trade between the Philadelphia 76ers and San Antonio Spurs in which the 76ers will have to part way with the reigning MVP Joel Embiid for Wembanyama (through the top overall pick in 2023), point guard Devonte’ Graham, small forward Doug McDermott and a 2024 first-round pick.

In the mock trade, the 76ers will be lured by the chance to have a skilled center like Wembanyama along with a 2024 first-round pick.

Although Joel Embiid has been a pivotal figure in the 76ers franchise, he has not been able to guide the team to desired glory ten years later.

With James Harden closely nearing his way out, a possible ascension by the 76ers is highly unlikely given that they have failed to go past the second round in the playoffs all these years.

The Spurs and 76ers are sitting at totally different positions on the performance table with the 76ers being top and the Spurs still struggling to find glory since their main man Tim Duncan called it quits back in 2016.

The idea of bringing in new power in Joel Embiid would be the addition they need most to go back to their winning ways.

As for the 76ers, a 2023 first-round pick and a possible 2024 first-round pick is not a not-so-bad idea and Wembanyama might be just what they need to finally go past the second round in the playoffs.

In Wembanyama’s current form, he might as well bring more than his skills to the court.

His joining a franchise will add more than half a billion value to follow him and no team would want to lose that opportunity.

The Spurs don’t look like they will be letting this chance go and as seen by their preparations they are more than ready to welcome the 2023 NBA number one pick.

On the other hand, the Philadelphia 76ers might look to rebuild in the process 2.0 and Wembanyama might be a good addition but giving Embiid a second chance in rebuilding would be the best route to take.

This is because Wembanyama has not been tested in the NBA and nobody knows how he will fare but as for Embiid he has been there and done that.

We cannot make assumptions right now but we will have to wait and see what these teams would choose to do.

But at the moment, the San Antonio Spurs hold all the power with their first pick. Whatever they do with it, we will find out.
