More Burger Options: Wendy’s & Other US Chains Launching in Prague Soon

Fast-food enthusiasts in Prague will soon have more options to try. U.S. fast food giant Wendy’s on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, announced they are seeking franchise partners in the Czech Republic. Rave Restaurant Group, which owns the Pie Five and Pizza Inn chains is also eyeing the Czech market following the Wednesday meeting with the U.S. embassy representatives in Prague.

The third-largest hamburger chain worldwide Wendy’s, is acclaimed for its square hamburgers and spicy chicken sandwiches. With over 7000 outlets across the world, the food chain has no presence in the European Union (EU) region at the moment.

According to Wendy’s statement on the U.S. embassy website in Prague, the company stated, “We’re looking for a franchisee to introduce our popular menu and exceptional dining experience to Czech customers.”

Pie Five and Pizza Inn famed for customizable pizzas made with fresh ingredients, are expected to crop up across Prague soon. These quick-service restaurants are seeking inroads into Czech and other EU members.

The addition of these fast-food chains follows Louisiana-based fast-food company Popeyes, which opened its first Czech location in November 2023. The branch on Wenceslas Square has seen long queues of people curious to have a taste of Popeyes chicken since its opening. According to Popeyes management, the facility has enjoyed commercial success and they have scheduled a second location opening at Prague’s Máj department store this spring.

Moreover, last summer, the U.S. pizza chain Domino’s launched its first Prague branch. They are looking forward to a second store in 2024. Another popular U.S. fast-food chain, Five Guys is expected to step foot in Prague, with a maiden facility later in the year. Plans are underway for their establishment in the Máj department store.

Beyond food, US hotels and technology companies are also seeking the Czech Republic’s market share. The world’s biggest hotel franchise company, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts has plans to establish mountain resorts and spas outside Prague city center. The company boasts over 8,900 hotels in at least 95 countries on six continents.

Additionally, reports from the Prague U.S. embassy reveal that more than 20 hotel brands are eyeing to establish facilities in the Czech Republic. The likes of Baymont, Days Inn, La Quinta, and Travelodge among others.

On the technology scene, the U.S. company Mobile Outfitters is also in search of franchise partners in the Czech Republic. This company specializes in mobile phone accessories such as screen protectors.

According to economic experts, these U.S business expansions in Czechia speak of the country’s economic diversity which is pushing high demand for international brands.
