Where to Eat Sushi in Lisbon

For some reason the food gods have bestowed hundreds of Japanese restaurants in and around the city of Lisbon. They are everywhere, and the cuisine is a favorite amongst both the locals and tourists who dine in the city center.

Any city in the world that has ground transit access to fresh seafood usually has a highly competitive sushi industry. Lisbon is on the Portuguese coast, and the harbors are mere kilometers from the center, meaning fresh salmon, tuna and other raw delicacies are easy to find.

In general Lisbon’s best restaurants are considered to be in the city center in neighborhoods like Chiado and Bairro Alto. These both hold great sushi dining options, but I’m lucky to call a few real sushi snobs friends, and have been dragged to the corners of this city in search of the best.

Sushi Factory in Lisbon

I might just be biased toward anything that the Lx Factory does, but this is my favorite sushi spot in Lisbon.

They have a great range in their flavor options, including variants for veggie and fruit eaters. Their €17 all you can eat chef’s special is great; you basically entrust the chef to serve you his most recommended options all night long until you’re full. They do this at lunch service as well!

Süshiria in Lisbon

Just a few minutes walk north of the Lx Factory is another raw fish gem.

Süshiria’s menu melts in your mouth. This might sound like a mild exaggeration, but true sushi lovers will know exactly what I mean.

They do fabulous platters which makes this a great spot for shared dining. Everything is incredibly reasonably priced and the service is worth the visit alone. 10/10!

Bonsai in Lisbon

If you’d gone ahead and assumed Bairro Alto would have sushi on offer you’d be right. Bonsai is right in the north of the district, somewhat escaped by the youthful ruckus that the bars of the center and south embody .

This is a very traditional Japanese establishment; clean lines, wooden interior, calm ambience. The touristic nature of the neighborhood gives Bonsai the ability to charge obscene amounts for their sushi menu; if you can afford it, it’s absolutely worth it.

Miss Jappa in Lisbon

Just a few steps north from Bonsai, Miss Jappa is serving fresh sushi at a fraction of the price.

It’s another sushi gem in Lisbon, one that offers other Japanese dishes on their menu in addition to their sushi. The restaurant is almost always full (affordable sushi in a city center will do that), so make a reservation if there are more than two diners.

They have a great bar area that is ideal for quick, solo dining.

Restaurante Suntory in Lisbon

Restaurant Suntory isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, ambiance wise. The sushi itself is good, but the establishment has opted to create a zen Japanese eatery with a western cocktail bar fusion that is strange at best.

The interior appears to mimic a beautiful zen spa house, complete with a waterfall. But the pop-music in the background and cocktail buzz can throw things a bit. Regardless, this is great sushi in Lisbon’s northern suburbs and an especially wonderful restaurant for families with children.

Unique Sushi Lab Delivery in Lisbon

When you can’t go to the sushi… make the sushi come to you.

Unique Sushi Lab is the go-to for sushi delivery in Lisbon. They’ll bring your order to your hotel or Airbnb usually within the hour.

You can also dine at Unique Sushi Lab, and while the restaurant itself is nothing special to look at, the food is incredible! They offer edamame and dim sum starters on the menu, followed by more sushi variations than you’re used to in Portugal.

Sea Me in Lisbon

Whether you’re self-wandering or on a free guided walking tour through Bairro Alto, the Portuguese restaurant industry reigns supreme, you can tell this from the streets.

Sea Me is the only sushi restaurant in the actual heart of Bairro Alto. They have opted to operate as a Portuguese and Japanese fusion kitchen, which keeps their market open to more diners.

The sushi is always good, as is the rest of their menu. A great place for shared dining; consider the oysters for starters followed by a sushi and Portuguese octopus main meal mix.
