Wembanyama to the San Antonio Spurs is 14% done
The draft day draws near and things can’t get more heated. The June 22, 2023, NBA draft will pump new life into the numerous NBA franchises and fans can’t contain their speculations about where all the top young talents could land.
The NBA draft lottery date is set for May 16, 2023, when teams will know their fate and find out about the draft order in the NBA draft.
San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, and the Detroit Pistons finished the regular season with the worst records and thus possess the highest chance to land the first overall pick with both having a 14% chance at it.
The San Antonio Spurs finished last in the Western Conference with a record of 22-60 just behind the Houston Rockets. Being in that position made the Spurs lose out in the playoffs but it presented them with a chance to land Victor Wembanyama.
Victor Wembanyama, the likely first overall pick, has been the subject of endless discussion among veterans, players, and pundits among all the prospects. The French prodigy has left fans and scouts in awe with his outstanding performance on the court.
Wembanyama, who stands 7 feet 4 inches tall, is renowned for his speed, strength, and incredible ability and agility. He typically stands out as the tallest player on the field, but he moves and handles the ball as a guard would. Teams have sought him out for these reasons, and the San Antonio Spurs would be fortunate to sign him.
The Spurs will be looking to develop their team and landing Wemby would be an added addition for them. Given that it has been nearly nine years since their last championship in 2014, the Spurs require a superstar player to lead them to another one.
When Wembanyama joins the Spurs, they have the opportunity to assemble a team around him to make sure he fully utilizes his abilities. If Jeremy Sochan, Tre Jones, and Victor Wembanyama teamed together, the NBA’s offensive team would be invincible.
The majority of the Spurs’ roster consists of young athletes who are all coached by none other than the famous Gregg Popovich, and the team hopes to select Victor in the 2023 NBA Draft. Popovich holds the position of team president. With the most victories of any coach in NBA history, Popovich is also regarded as one of the game’s all-time greats.
Gregg’s coaching career and his ambition to keep coaching may be prolonged by the chance to develop a talent like Wembanyama. It’s worth considering whether the prospect of his retirement will give the team more motivation for getting back to playoff contention as soon as possible.
Whichever additions Wembanyama provides as a finisher and inside defender will be beneficial by default given that the Spurs came perilously near to being bottom in both offensively and defensively. But his profile as the kind of undeniable indispensable skill the team is missing will be his strongest advantage to the Spurs.

Adding Wembanyama to the squad would be a good choice and that will largely contribute to the Spurs’ success in the 2023-24 season and its general future in coming years.
