Tony Parker and Tim Duncan Set To Mentor Wembanyama

Wembanyama stands out among the highest draft prospects in the 2023 NBA draft and fans can’t wait any longer before they see him play his first official game in the NBA.

As the NBA draft lottery was done on May 16, 2023, the San Antonio Spurs were lucky enough to clinch the first pick during the draft day scheduled for June 22, 2023.

All eyes are on the Spurs to select Victor Wembanyama as he is projected to be the first overall pick during the draft.

Picking first in the draft usually means you get the best of the best that year and that’s exactly what the San Antonio Spurs will be getting in Victor Wembanyama.

Victor’s talent is undeniable. First of all, Victor is 7’4″ tall, has an 8-foot wingspan, and shoots the three-point arc consistently. He is well-known for both his skill and his overall playing style.

Victor’s alien-like stature will undoubtedly help him complete tasks that other players will find difficult.

Due to his strong ball-handling skills and quick first step, he can outrun the defense and make the shot despite his height. His outside shooting is accurate and lethal, so he’ll adjust quickly in the NBA.

All these just show how talented the 19-year-old wonder kid is.

Victor’s talent is undeniable but there’s more that Victor could do that would harness his in-court prowess even more.

The San Antonio Spurs know this, that’s why they have arrangements to have Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili come out of retirement to mentor Victor Wembanyama.

That’s a trio that resonates with everybody thanks to their achievements while playing together in San Antonio.

Playing together they were able to lead the Spurs to win four NBA championships starting in 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2014. This was all under the legendary San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich.

These three mentoring Wembanyama would be a top-up of what could be one of a kind. Already dubbed a generational talent, these three mentoring him would mean that he gets to Jedi level that’s for sure.

For starters, Parker’s expertise would be beneficial. Tony served as the team’s catalyst for a while. Tony had to master playing at a fast pace and navigating the court despite being a super fast ball handler and superior.

Tony’s comprehension of how to manage the play with the ball in his grasp will be vital to a potential talent with significant hopes of having a profound effect on San Antonio.

Ginobili’s ferocity would be critical for Wembanyama as Wemby will get to learn how playing as a core team member is the way to win a championship.

Manu would be able to instill some knowledge in Wembanyama for him to see success with the Spurs.

Tim Duncan needs no introduction, he was central to bringing to fruition what San Antonio Spurs are proud of today. Duncan as a mentor to Wembanyama would teach him humility and the strive to be the best.

Even though Duncan was the first overall pick in 1997, he was eager to learn more and hence became one of the best to ever play the game.

After winning his first ring in 1999, Duncan kept working hard till his retirement and with him, the Spurs won five rings.

Victor getting all these three on his team and learning everything from them will be very crucial to how his career progresses.

All in all, it is just a matter of time before we see Victor rocking the famous silver and black and with the trio being at his disposal, he’ll for sure rise to the occasion of being the best.
