Reggie Miller Raises A Very Concerning Issue About Wembanyama

Getting shoutouts from basketball legends seems to be a norm in the life of Victor Wembanyama.

The 19-year-old French teenage sensation has been able to captivate everyone that has got the chance to see him play.

From his graceful movements on the court and his general fluidity, Victor has been compared to a point guard yet standing at a staggering 7’4”.

It is no doubt that he has earned the title of a generational talent with young players of his calibre rare to come by these days.

His hype is so immense that it brings about the same vibes the hype around LeBron James was back in 2003 when the Legendary Laker was getting to the NBA.

Wemby has gained traction all over the world and he is projected to be the first overall pick in this coming NBA draft that is scheduled to take place on June 22, 2023, in Brooklyn.

The San Antonio Spurs look like the potential employers of Wembanyama as they walked away with the first overall pick in the just concluded NBA Draft lottery that was held on May 16, 2023, in Chicago.

With Victor going to San Antonio Spurs being the utmost possibility with the team unhinged on having any reason to trade their first pick, there have been a series of doubts roaming around.

Fans and pundits cannot stop wondering how Victor will be able to adapt to the high-intensity NBA and playing with grownups might deem extremely challenging for Wembanyama.

Victor’s build has been a major concern and a prime talking point when discussing if he will at all be able to last long in the NBA.

Standing at 7’4” with an 8-foot wingspan, Wembanyama is only 230lbs which is a major concerning issue since he is playing the Centre position in a team.

Former NBA players have raised concerns about that build with the most notable being Shaquille O’Neal who says,” He’s not very big… he’s tall, but he’s building up a lot of muscles, not that strong.”

This concern has gotten backed up by none other than the legendary Reggie Miller famously known as Knick Killer while playing for the New York Knicks.

The 5X NBA All-Star says that Wembanyama’s build to go with this height is a very concerning issue and a thing we should consider before assuming Victor will be up and running that fast.

The Sun quotes him on the Dan Patrick’s Show saying,” My only concern is – he looks like me at 7 ‘5″. Knock on wood. I was rarely injured, through my 18-year, only ankle injuries.

But I played on the perimeter. I’m not banging with the big boys.
But it’s not as physical as it was in the 80s and 90s, so he won’t be banged up like those days.”

Miller adds a prayer for Wembanyama’s health by saying, “I just hope he doesn’t get hurt. I just pray he stays healthy.”

Miller believes that if Wembanyama avoids getting injured, he will be able to reach the projected pinnacles the French prodigy is expected to reach.

Wembanyama’s coach, agent and trainer both agree that Wembanyama gaining too much weight too fast would be even more catastrophic than him being lighter than expected.

We stick with their plans and as it looks, they know what’s best for the teenage sensation.

San Antonio Spurs don’t seem unhinged and so is Victor Wembanyama who has the confidence to be the best at what he does once he gets to the NBA.
