The highly anticipated Lisbon Book Fair is almost here, and this year it’s breaking records! The 94th edition boasts the largest scale yet, reaching the full capacity of its venue, Parque Eduardo VII. From May 29th to June 16th, book lovers of all ages can immerse themselves in a vibrant literary celebration.

This year’s fair features 350 pavilions, offering a wider selection of books than ever before. Organizers have also introduced two new squares, providing more space for browsing and literary events. Additionally, extended opening hours allow visitors more time to explore the fair’s offerings.

Accessibility

Accessibility remains a top priority, with organizers implementing measures to ensure everyone can enjoy the fair. This includes improved facilities for visitors with special needs, such as including more toilets with access for people with reduced mobility. Use of Portuguese sign language, a color alphabet for the blind, are also some of the measures being implemented.

 Potential Future Challenge

“The Lisbon Book Fair will take place at Parque Eduardo VII, Lisbon, between May 29 and June 16, reaching its maximum limit in terms of growth,” commented Pedro Sobral, president of the Portuguese Publishers and Booksellers Association (APEL). “This leaves the organizers with a challenge for the future,” he added, hinting at the fair’s potential for even further expansion in the years to come.

According to Pedro, the venue is one of the ‘most critical factors in the fair’s success, because it is central, in the pen, and regardless of the ramps and the rough terrain, it’s a place where people like to walk.’

 More than just books

Beyond the sheer volume of books, the Lisbon Book Fair offers a platform for authors and readers to connect. Visitors can expect author signings, talks, and discussions throughout the event. This year promises a particularly exciting lineup, with both established and emerging authors participating. The fair will also feature the ‘Camping with Stories’ initiative, targeting children. Visitors can also donate their books.

Opening Times

Opening hours are 12 pm for week days, and 10 am during the weekends and on public holidays. Closing time is at 10 pm, excluding Fridays, Saturdays and public holidays, when it closes at 11 pm.

With its beautiful setting overlooking the Tagus River, the Lisbon Book Fair offers a unique opportunity to combine a love of literature with a a refreshing outdoor experience.
