England star Marcus Rashford is enjoying his most productive season but has yet to put pen to paper on a new long-term contract

As talks over a new Manchester United contract continue, Marcus Rashford hinted that trophies are more important to him than individual goals.

This season, the England attacker has 29 goals in all competitions, which is by far his finest return in a single season. One of those goals came in the Carabao Cup final, in which United defeated Newcastle 2-0 at Wembley to win their first trophy since 2017.

Rashford was also a member of the squad that won two cups under Jose Mourinho in 2017. Erik Ten Hag has helped the Red Devils get back on track, and his new statements show where his priorities are.

“Individually, yes,” Rashford said when asked if this was his finest season so far by Premier League Productions (through club media). “However, during Jose [Mourinho’s] tenure, we won three trophies.” It’s all about the prizes for me.

“We have the chance to qualify for the Champions League, and the big one is to win another piece of silverware.” That is exactly what we intend to do. So that is the goal now.”

United still has a chance to complete Ten Hag’s debut season with two trophies, having reached the FA Cup final against Manchester City. However, the Dutchman fell short of replicating Mourinho’s Europa League success, with United losing in the quarter-finals to Sevilla.

Rashford’s current Manchester United contract expires in the summer of 2024, with the club electing to exercise a one-year extension option in December. However, talks about a longer extension are ongoing, with the 25-year-old leading the club in scoring as they prepare to return to the Champions League.

United are making ‘excellent progress’ in talks with Rashford, according to The Telegraph. Any new contract would almost certainly make the forward one of the club’s highest-paid players, a position presently held by David de Gea, who is also in contract talks.

United are still looking for a new central striker, and talks with Rashford appear unlikely to change that. The future of on-loan Wout Weghorst is unknown, but a number of prospects, including Harry Kane, Victor Osimhen, and Randal Kolo Muani, are being evaluated.

PSG is said to be one of the clubs ready to pounce if Rashford is unable to reach new terms with his boyhood club. PSG have previously considered a move for the Englishman, and they might start next season with a new-look attack as they prepare to lose both Lionel Messi and Neymar in the summer window.
