The Budapest International Book Festival (Budapesti Nemzetközi Könyvfesztivál) is a cornerstone event in Hungary’s cultural calendar that dates back to the 1990’s. As the name suggests, the event calls in book lovers, authors, and publishers from around the globe to celebrate authors.

The Hungarian Central Building Market which serves as the festival’s central hub, hosts over 200 literature exhibitors from all over the world. The festival invites renowned authors from various countries, offering attendees the chance to engage with their favorite writers and even get their books signed. One of the festival’s highlights is the Budapest Grand Prize, awarded to outstanding contemporary writers.

Over the years the awards have been bestowed upon literary giants such as Salman Rushdie, Imre Kertész, Robert Merle, Paulo Coelho, Per Olov Enquist, and Lawrence Norfolk, among others.
