BFMTV reported on Thursday that the French National Railways Company has temporarily halted train services on several routes in Normandy. This decision was taken in light of the adverse weather conditions caused by Storm Nelson, which has battered the country’s western regions. The suspension of train services aims to ensure the safety of passengers and minimize the chances of any unforeseen accidents or delays due to the storm.
“Due to the storm, train traffic on several routes was disrupted this Thursday in Normandy, where there are routes on which traffic is suspended for the whole day,” the TV channel reports.
According to the television channel, traffic on some routes in the neighboring regions of Brittany and Pays de la Loire was also disrupted or altered. The Transilien U line, which connects La Défense and La Verrière, was completely shut down due to a major incident: a tree fell onto the catenaries near Saint-Cloud, obstructing the track. SNCF quickly reported the incident on its X (ex-Twitter) account, announcing a complete disruption in traffic and predicting an initial resumption by 5:30 pm.
At least six departments along the Atlantic coast have issued an orange weather alert due to the storm. Some areas experienced wind gusts over 183 km/h.
The transportation company urged passengers to look up train schedules on relevant websites.
