Top 10 Nightclubs of London

When the sun goes down in London and the drinking ensues, it’s hard to tell who is harder to keep up with: the local Londoners (looking at you, South London) or the overexcited tourists.

London is one of the unofficial nightlife capitals of the world, competing with the likes of Miami and New York. It’s its own version of a city that never sleeps, and the nightclubs will  gladly carry you through to morning come. Here are ten of the very best.

1. London Groove Ltd in London

Right in the heartbeat of London, near Waterloo and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, London Groove is the industrial nightclub of your dreams.

It’s seen tremendous popularity in recent years following a much needed renovation of the space. This isn’t a daily nightclub, however, evening events scheduled monthly, and the space is available for rent by the public for events at any time. Following their social media is the best way to find the open parties.

2. Two Brewers in London

If you’re going to go drinking and dancing in Clapham, it should be at Two Brewers! This gay-friendly spot is some of the most fun available in all of the city, if you ask me.

There is highly cabaret and fabulous DJs that carry the evenings through, seven days a week. Sunday nights are drag nights, and the place is packed to the brim from Thursdays onward.

Drinks are relatively cheap (another reason to go drinking in Clapham).

3. The Chelsea Lodge in London

Most travelers come to Chelsea to see the calmer side of London. The stroll their guided walking tours and bask in the simplicity of British culture. Little do they know that when the sun goes down Chelsea comes very much to life.

The Chelsea Lodge is a restaurant and nightclub hybrid space. You’ll dine, you’ll drink, you’ll dance the night away. You might even take a stranger home with you; British accents can be irresistible, can’t they?

If you want to have dinner before the party starts you’ll need to make a reservation. They close between Sundays and Tuesdays!

4. Simmons Bar in London

You can’t come to London and not visit a Simmons Bar at least once. I say a Simmons Bar, because there are many. This nighttime venue has franchised all over London, with almost twenty locations to choose from.

I enjoy the one in Fulham, mostly because my friends live nearby. But there is little difference between the different venues around the city; all of them sporting a vibrant, retro, disco vibe with great music and drinks to carry you through.

Other locations include Kings Cross, Camden Town, Soho, Oxford Street and Temple (to name a few).

5. Club 414 in London

If I must go out drinking in Brixton then Club 414 is the go-to. I like that there are multiple layers to this nightclub and you are not trapped in a single space for the duration of the evening.

It holds a dance area, a rooftop terrace, a smoking lounge and a main bar.

I prefer their jazz evenings, purely because of who I am as a person (and the crowds are friendlier), but they also offer techno, house and hard house events for electronic music lovers.

OPENING HOURS: Wednesday to Sunday — 10pm to 3am
Address: 414-416 Coldharbour Ln, Brixton, London SW9 8LF, UK
Metro Station: Brixton

6. Tramp in London

If you want to see British history while in London, take a guided walking tour. If you want to see celebrities while in London, go to Tramp.

This nightclub is considered one of the most elite in all of the UK. Supposedly you can only get in if you are a member, or have been invited by a member. But money talks and there is always a way inside.

It’s situated close to Buckingham Palace. This is the watering hole of choice for the Beckhams, Noel Gallagher and even Rihanna when she’s in town.

Ideally you want to go in a big group and all contribute toward their minimum spend for a table. If you even have to ponder and ask how much this is, you should probably just go elsewhere.

7. Secrets 1 in London

Secrets 1 is a nightclub and elite “dance” venue in Hammersmith in the east of London. It’s about the only nighttime scene in the area, but be warned, you’ll need an open mind.

You can drink, you can dance, or you can have someone else dance for you. Secrets 1 is a London gentlemen’s club (a phrase I detest, women can go too!); you may for drinks and you pay for dancers, if that is of interest to you.

Secrets 1 can be a lot of fun so long as you keep your manners in check. In 2019 we are no longer shaming anyone who uses his or her body for work. Come with an open mind, a wallet full of cash and the same amount of respect you’d give your partner, sister or daughter. Let’s enjoy something different for a night out in London.

8. Blagclub Kensington in London

Nothing prepares you for the moment you first walk into the Blagclub in Kensignton. The gold ceiling, the Hindu decor and the daybeds all over the club make for one interesting experience.

This is another elite club in London. For public nights they are only open on Fridays and Saturdays, the rest of the week the venue is reserved for private hire. They host 21st’s, wedding receptions, company Christmas parties, you name it.

Take note of how early they open for business. Granted they close a lot earlier than most nightclubs in London, but it’s great to have a spot to go straight to after an early dinner, instead of lingering until 10pm like most other clubs require.

9. The Little Yellow Door in London

I love the Little Yellow Door. I get into debates frequently about whether or not this spot qualifies as a nightclub or not, considering they sometimes open during the day as a brunch venue, but I stand firmly behind my belief that it does!

Saturday’s are brunch day and Little Yellow Door is open from midday through to usual closing at 1am. During this time there is a full British menu, bottomless mimosas and chilled Prosecco.

The space is set up like a traditional British living room, and as the night progresses it becomes a cocktail lounge and nightclub rolled into one. They get away with this because there are two levels to the space; the top floor is much calmer, a place where you can sip a drink and maintain a conversation; the bottom floor is the party.

10. The Underworld in London

Rock ’n rollers need nightclubs too. We venture back into Camden Town for this one; an underground music venue with live performances and dancing late into the evenings.

On nights when live bands aren’t available, the DJs will play all the singalong classics through the ages. It’s a lot of fun and the energy is tangible.

The clubs capacity is 500 people, though it feels a lot smaller once inside. It is packed out almost every night of opening. Following their social media will keep you up to date with party days and times.

Beer lovers will thrive here; unfortunately they don’t have any non-alcoholic beers on offer, I am hoping this changes soon.
