Born Tupac Amaru Shakur, he was the most talented and creative rapper in the history of hip-hop. He died in 1996 after succumbing to multiple gunshot injuries and his death affected people so much because of how his music gave hope and a sense of identity to so many young men at the time.  His music is still celebrated to date and when looked at critically, you can clearly see how talented he was especially in rhyming words and making them sound poetic yet he’s addressing serious societal issues like racism and police brutality.

B.I.G. was another iconic rapper who ironically passed away a year after Tupac. His death was surrounded by too much controversy especially because he was heavily beefing with Tupac at the time. He was a talented rapper still and many of his fans have always termed him as the most iconic rapper in the hip hop industry. Similarly, just like Tupac, Notorious B.I.G. left a huge gap in the industry.

Aaliyah was way ahead of her time. Be it her beauty, her charisma, stage presence, fashion sense, way of singing, everything. She was ahead of her time because of the raw talent she would always demonstrate and it is no surprise that she earned the nicknames,  “Princess of R&B” and “Queen of Urban Pop after being recognized for redefining contemporary R&B, pop, and hip hop. She was also an actress who did a phenomenal job in the movie, ‘Queen of the damned.’ She was quite talented and it is quite unfortunate that she died in that 2001 plane crash that spared no one.

4. Whitney Houston

Without a doubt, Whitney Houston sounded like an angel every time she opened her mouth to sing. That is probably an exaggeration but Houston was a phenomenal singer. This is why it is really not a surprise that she was the recipient of so many awards, recognitions, and nominations throughout her career. The 1992 movie ‘The Bodyguard,’ also proved what a talented actress she was, and the song she sang for that movie, ‘I will always Love You,’ sealed the deal of her being an amazing vocalist. It is unfortunate that she died in 2010 due to an apparent drug overdose and watching her beauty and charisma fade away over the years due to drug abuse has got to be the most heartbreaking thing in the music industry.

5. Tina Turner

With her signature sequin mini dresses and strong stage presence, Tina Turner wasn’t nicknamed ‘Queen of Rock n Roll by mistake.’ What’s more impressive about Tina is how she rebuilt from the ground up to become the phenomenal and iconic singer we know today. Being a victim of domestic violence, Tina went through a lot but finally emerged as a winner. She passed away this year in May and every time the songs ‘What’s Love Got to do with It,’  and ‘Simply the Best’ starts playing, her memories will continue to live on.

In addition to being an attorney,  she was also a very popular and liked TV correspondent, a model, and a beauty pageant title holder, having been crowned as ‘Miss USA, in 2019’ and a nominee for two Daytime Emmy Awards.
