Located on the coast of the Pacific Ocean in Southern California, San Diego is widely known as “America’s Finest City.” Famous for its miles and miles of white-sand beaches and amazing weather, the city offers an abundance of fun attractions for visitors of all ages.  

San Diego is full of friendly people, a laid-back atmosphere, and a wonderful climate. It is no surprise that people including singers love it here.

1. Andra Day  

Cassandra Monique Batie, professionally known as Andra Day, is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. She was born on 30th December 1984 in Edmonds, Washington but her family moved to San Diego when she was three years old.  

She started by singing in church when she was young. Andra attended and graduated from San Diego’s School of Creative & Performing Arts in 2003 before becoming a protégé of Stevie Wonder. 

She received a Grammy Award and a Golden Globe Award, for her achievement in the music and acting industry.  

2. Eddie Vedder

Eddie Jerome Vedder is an American singer, musician, and songwriter with powerful baritone vocals best known as the lead vocalist and one of four guitarists of the rock band Pearl Jam. He is among the “Best Lead Singers of All Time”. 

Eddie was born on 23rd December 1964, in the Chicago suburb of Evanston, Illinois but his family moved to San Diego in California where he was brought up.

Eddie received a guitar from his mum on his 12th birthday. He enjoyed playing the instrument as well as surfing since he was a teenager. 

His music genres are alternative rock, grunge, and folk rock. Eddie was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Pearl Jam in 2017 and won the Environmentalist of the Year Award in 2007.   

3. Tristan Ann Prettyman  

Tristan is an American singer, songwriter, and avid surfer who began her career by playing in local clubs and bars in California. She is the former wife of venture capitalist Bill Maris.   

Tristan was born on 23rd May 1982 in Del Mar, San Diego where she grew up. She had an interest in music and she began by playing around with her father’s old acoustic guitar when she was not out surfing.  

A little-known fact about her is that she has had surgery to remove polyps on her vocal cords. 

4. Francisco Javier Bautista Jr.  

Better known as Frankie J, this Mexican American singer and former Kumbia Kings music group member, grew up listening to both traditional Latin and American urban music. 

Frankie was born on 7th Dec 1975 in Mexico but was raised in San Diego after his uncle brought him and his siblings to the United States.  He developed an interest in singing and began participating in talent shows and performing at school functions.  

With the support of his family, he became a freestyle artist under the stage name Frankie Boy then joined the music group before re-embarking on a solo career. Frankie J sings in both English and Spanish and his music genres are R&B, pop, and Latin pop 

5. Ann Wilson

Ann Dustin Wilson is an American singer and songwriter best known as the lead singer of the rock band Heart. She was born on 19th June 1950 in San Diego, California. Her music genres are rock, hard rock, folk rock, plus pop rock and she has sold over 35 million records worldwide. 

Ann has a lyric soprano vocal range and is well-known for her operatic abilities. She is in the Heart Band with her younger sister Nancy. Ann has two adopted children. 

Ann received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2012 and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Heart the following year. 

6. Rob Crow 

Robertdale Rulon Crow Jr., nicknamed Snotnose, is an American singer, musician, and songwriter from San Diego, California. He was born on 21st February 1971 in New Jersey but moved to San Diego later in life. 

He plays the drums, guitar, and keyboards and his music genres are indie rock, math rock plus stoner metal. Though he has worked with several music labels and bands, he performs and releases solo records under his name and the name Snotnose. 

7. Rebekah Del Rio 

Rebekah is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. She was voted as one of the “Top 10 Singers in San Diego”. Her music genres are soft rock, easy listening, and Latin jazz. 

Rebekah was born on 10th July 1967 in Chula Vista, San Diego and she has a three-octave vocal range. 

8. Phil Wickham

Philip David Wickham is a Contemporary Christian musician, singer, and songwriter. He was born on 5th April 1984 in San Diego, California. He started by learning popular praise songs before he started writing his own. 

Phil is a worship leader at his church, and he visits churches across the world to play his music. 

9. Arianna Afsar  

Arianna Ayesha “Ari” Afsar is an American singer, composer, beauty queen, actress, and activist. She is best known for her starring role in Hamilton, as the songwriter of the musical Jeannette, plus as a top contestant on American Idol.  

Afsar was born on 22nd October 1991 in San Diego, California. She is credited with initiating Adopt-a-Grandfriend, a project she started in 2005, to help fight the loneliness of senior citizens. 

In 2010, she was crowned Miss San Diego County moving on to win the Miss California 2010 title. Afsar is also a women’s rights activist and an avid supporter and vocal advocate for Planned Parenthood, the United State of Women, and the Women’s March.

10. Brian Justin Crum  

Brian Crum is an American singer and actor, famous for his soaring vocals and emotional storytelling. He was born on 28th May 1988 in San Diego, California. In 2016, his cover of Radiohead’s “CREEP” on America’s Got Talent went viral with over 100 Million views and he finished fourth in the competition. 

His first single “Show Me Love” reached number two on the Billboard Dance charts and was named in the top 10 dance records of 2017 alongside Rihanna and Ed Sheeran. In March 2019, he sang the National Anthem at the San Diego Padres opening day game.
