Burgers are a naturally portable food item that’s affordable by design, the humble hamburger has been a big seller in D.C.

Washington, D.C. has a lot of good burgers to pick from. However, what makes D.C.’s burger scene stand out is the wide variety of yummy burgers available.

Thanks to advances in food science, diners can enjoy a meatless patty that closely mimics the texture, taste, and even the juicy mess of a ground beef burger.

Restaurants in D.C. have gradually begun to adopt popular meat substitutes,

Some restaurants are focused on the quality of beef they use and which cuts they blend into patties. Gourmet condiments and interesting accents abound.

Nevertheless, there’s everything from a classic at Clyde’s to an Ethiopian interpretation at Caffé Utopia to a high-end tuna option at Central Michel Richard.

This list is about the top 10 meat and some veggie burgers in D.C.

The rock-n-roll joint presents a nine-burger lineup all built with 6-ounce Creekstone Farms beef patties.

The “straight up and to the point” classic comes with lettuce, tomato, and onion, while an offbeat “Barstool Rodeo” barbecue works with finely ground coffee.

The South of the Burger, and did not disappoint- delicious avocado, pico de gallo, jalapenos and other good stuff.

The Jucy Lucy is evidently a Midwestern tradition of putting the cheese inside the patty.

Their service is top-notch. This is what fine dining service should be: the staff speak French, they time courses out intentionally, they check to make sure every dish that comes out meets or exceeds expectations

It is hard to imagine going to an iconic French brasserie and ordering a burger with “America” in the name.

Le Dip’s burger Americain, which incorporates a special burger sauce comprised of mayonnaise, finely chopped dill pickles, chile sauce, and onion powder, and pairs it with immaculately cooked beef on brioche.

The ambience is a spacious, well-appointed indoor dining area that’s long been a hit for people looking for a nice night out. A covered outdoor area abutting 14th Street offers additional tables.

Lucky Buns is highly recommended for their tasty burgers.

Their menu is the reason why this place is so popular. They only serve the iconic combination of burgers, sides, and drinks so there is no fuss about what to order.

Serving 11 kinds of burgers with many toppings on each one, “you can always find a way to cure that burger craving.”

Their burgers are super duper juicy and stacked tall.  The toppings are ample and complement the burgers well and the chips are tasty, especially with the aioli for dipping.

Lastly, try the BRAAI (South African bbq spice) spiced chips.

The Brookland neighbourhood mainstay is known for its beloved Colonel burger (certified Angus beef, pickled onions, Tillamook cheddar, applewood smoked bacon on a brioche bun). Served with hand-cut fries, chips or a side salad.

Their burger is tasty! They seem to have figured out the exact proportions for toppings, meat, and bun. The ground beef is weirdly (in a good way) soft.

The Colonel Burger is a simple burger done right, they got the bun, patty and toppings just right.

Sometimes, gourmet burgers can be done over the top and miss the mark but Brookland’s is simple and good.

At the moment they are only doing outdoor seating.

Melange is notable for how many different types of burgers it does brilliantly.

The K Street spot, which opened in the fall of 2020, is the brainchild of Ethiopian-born, French-trained chef Elias Taddesse, whose burgers and chicken sandwiches incorporate notes from all over the world.

The establishment’s many burger options include “The Italian” (smoked mozzarella, tomato confit, arugula, spicy basil aioli), “The Beyaynetu” (lentil beet patty, swiss chard confit, timatim salata, spicy misir spread), and numerous more classic beef-based burgers.

The interior looks like a quaint townhouse with a bar plopped in. It’s broken in hardwood floors and lots of natural light invite you in.

Inspired by London’s working class, this pub restaurant serves 14 original burgers and sandwiches.

Their flavorful creative blend of burgers is what distinguishes this place from other restaurants in D.C.

Ever tried a chicken schnitzel sandwich with Jarlsberg cheese, avocado, capicola ham, pickled jalapeno with garlic aioli, and dijon all in a torta roll? At Duke’s, that’s called a Cubano.

Their Proper Burger (2 well done Creekstone Angus burgers, melted Gouda, pickles, charred red onion, sweet chilli sauce, arugula, garlic aioli-on a brioche bun) is a must-try.

There are three locations in DC, so, find the one nearest you, and give this burger a try.

They also serve a Ventura Highway with a beef patty topped with triple cream Brie and caramelized red onion, or a Buffalo Stomp made with a bacon-wrapped bison burger with blue cheese, onions, tomato, and remoulade.

With these intense burgers comes a side of Thunder fries, cranberry vinaigrette coleslaw, or apple potato salad is served with it.

The Buffalo Stomp burger consists of bison meat patty, bacon, tomato, caramelized onions, lettuce, and blue cheese. The bison tasted very similar to beef, try it.

Located in the shadow of the U.S. Capitol Building serving DC politicos, neighbourhood families and the nation’s movers & shakers!

We are a block away from the Library of Congress, three blocks from the Washington Visitor Center and two blocks from the Supreme Court.

Their  Farmhouse Burgers are topped with farm-fresh ruby-red tomatoes, thinly sliced onion, crisp lettuce and pickles, served on a sweet, buttery soft, freshly baked Pennsylvania dutch bun with a loving spoonful of Good Stuff  Sauce or “Shun The Bun” – have it lettuce wrapped.

The Good Stuff  Melt is made from melted cheddar and muenster, caramelized onions and mushrooms with Good Stuff Sauce.

The Melt burger to-go is amazing! The potato bun is soft and light, the patty, thick and perfectly seasoned, while all the gooey melted cheese with grilled onions and mushroom is both earthy and smoky.

Pop-in for Good Stuff burgers, farm-fresh toppings, and Farmer’s Market Chopped Salads.

Hamburgers are one of the easiest foods to eat while on the go. No matter what time it is whether it’s breakfast, lunch, or dinner we grab a hamburger and might throw in some fries and a soda to go with it.

Many restaurants are known to make their hamburgers in a specific way. Preparation differs from restaurant to restaurant.

But what really makes a hamburger taste so delicious? Depending on where you go they will taste different but they are all structured the same. It consists of a bun, a ground meat patty and often ingredients such as cheese, onion slices, lettuce and other condiments.

In Washington, D.C. burgers come in many ways.
