True Crime Awards announced the Top creators at an event held at the Hilton London Bankside

The True Crime Awards which is in its second year announced the True Crime winners at an awards ceremony that was held at the Hilton London Bankside. The awards were established to celebrate the content creators and content that is being released across the true crime genre. The True Crime Awards brings together creators and producers from the different sectors of true crime like podcasts, screen and publishing. It provides them with a platform where they can interact and get appreciated for the effort they put into their work.

The award ceremony that Yinka Bokinni presented highlighted the efforts that creators put into research so that they can retell a true story accurately, respectfully and at the same time entertain true crime enthusiasts

Over the past few years, the true crime genre has grown exponentially in that it is no longer content for brooks and podcasts but also a way for society to reflect. The data presented by the true crime shows and books are used as a tool for social reflection and to spark reform as they show flaws in the justice system.

This year’s True Crime Awards had 24 categories that were judged by a panel of more than 40 experts in the fields who considered the originality, creativity, production and overall performance of the contestants. The awards also had a new category “Impact for Change” which looked at the content that advocated for positive change. Some of the winners of this new category included Vishal from BBC Studios within Podcasts; Our Georgia by Lynette Williams with Robin Eveleigh of Mardle Books won within Publishing; and The Great Rhino Robbery from BBC Studios within On Screen.

In a statement, the event director Nancy Baughen, said, “The level of support, enthusiasm and commitment from our judges, entrants and partners has been exceptional. They are without a doubt, leaders, and key players from across the full spectrum of the true crime industry which is why these awards give the recognitions this genre deserves”.
