Police Identify 7 Suspects Involved in Brutal Anti-LGBTQ Attack on Michigan State Students

The Michigan State University Police announced in a statement that they had identified seven suspects that are connected to the assault of two Michigan State students which happened at the school’s main library on Tuesday, 16th April 2014.

The police further revealed in their statement that the suspects targeted the two students based on their sexual orientation. The statement also revealed that the suspects were not affiliated with the university in any way. The university police have appealed to the prosecution the press charges after they have completed their investigation. 

While addressing the staff and students of Michigan State University in a statement, the school interim vice president and chief security officer Doug Monnette and the senior vice president, of the school life and engagement department noted that this incident happened during the school’s pride month. The duo said, “It is important to recognize that crimes are never the fault of a victim. Anyone who believes they have been discriminated against or harassed is encouraged to report the incidents(s) to the MSU Office of Institutional Equity”. Their statement emphasised the importance of measures to be put in place to prevent harassment of students based on their sexual orientation. They further went on to reiterate that they wanted to assure everyone that they deserved to be safe and protected.
