Looking At The Chances The Charlotte Hornets Have in Landing Wembanyama

We have heard all the praise the 19-year-old Wembanyama could amass in the past year and it is no doubt that a lot is expected from him. From being the highest prospected talent to ever enter the NBA draft to standing 7’4” with an 8-foot wingspan, Wembanyama is genuinely a generational talent, truly one of a kind.

With his admirable skills that have given his name a reputable status, Victor has attracted several teams to the idea of landing him. The buzz around Victor even led to the NBA commissioner cautioning teams against tanking to have the worst record for the sole purpose of getting higher chances of landing Wembanyama.

Only a selected few possess the chance to get Wemby with the Detroit Pistons who finished last in the Eastern Conference with the worst overall record of 17 wins and 65 losses, The Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs who both finished their season with a 22-60 record and finished second last and last respectively in the NBA western conference all having the highest chance to get a first overall pick at 14%.

The Michael Jordan-owned Charlotte Hornets come in fourth with a 12.5% chance of getting the first overall pick after finishing second last in the NBA Eastern Conference with a record of 27-55.

The Hornets will be hoping to land the highly prospected French talent and fans can’t stop fantasising about the possibilities that would follow through if this happens.

Wembanyama getting drafted to Charlotte would mean the offensive sector on the team would be revamped. Victor and LaMelo Ball will instantly click in the otherwise super-fast offensive court environment. Wembanyama who also is skilled on the defence will collaborate with Center Mark Williams to force a formidable backline.

This Hornets franchise swiftly lost any hope of becoming much beyond a competitor to sign Victor Wembanyama by being a bottom performer due to injuries. They did not qualify for the playoffs and if qualifying for the playoffs next season will mean they will have to land Victor, then this idea can be entertained.

In a reaction to a video where Wembanyama shows off mad dribbling skills and completed with a put-back dunk one fan said, “If Hornets don’t get him.. Jordan sells the franchise.”

This comes amid rumours whereby Michael Jordan, according to Sportskeeda, was engaged in serious discussions about selling his majority share in the Charlotte Hornets last month.

If a deal is reached, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN claims that Jordan would continue to possess a minority stake in the Hornets. Businessmen Rick Schnall and Gabe Plotkin are in charge of the consortium attempting to purchase most of the Hornets.

The Hornets already have Plotkin as a minor shareholder. If the deal goes through, Plotkin and Schnall will join Jordan as co-governors of the Hornets. Although it’s still unclear if the deal will go through, we’ll just have to wait and see.
