Why the NBA should be scared of Wembanyama

As June 22nd draws close for the 2023 NBA draft, the Metropolitans 92 centre, Victor Wembanyama, keeps showing us why he is one if not the best prospect to ever enter the NBA draft. This comes up majorly because over  50% of the games he plays go viral. There is no doubt cameras are following the projected number one draft in the 2023 NBA draft and all NBA teams have got an eye on the agile athlete, at least if the team wishes to strengthen their roster for the upcoming season.  

7’ 4’’ Wemby is as hot as a hotcake when it comes to hooping as the young lad averages 21.5 points, 9.4 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game! Now this looks like child’s play but if you look at the current NBA roster, players who average above 20 points per game slightly go above half of the entire roster. What does that mean for Wembanyama?

He is already in the top 60% even before his first NBA game and we can tell this is just the beginning of something destined for greatness. 

Pundits and critics have repeatedly admired Wembanyama’s greatness, acknowledging his impressive achievements and abilities. The Guardian is quoted calling him; a ‘once-in-a-millennium prodigy’ with other commentators projecting his rise to stardom and teams salivating for him, it is no doubt that he is in the upper echelon of most hyped NBA prospects.

Victor already has his name as a household name in the NBA seen by how he is getting shout-outs from already-established names in the game with LeBron James being one of the most noticeable players to heap praise on the Metropolitans 92 player. In an interview with a reporter after the Los Angeles Lakers vs Phoenix Suns games in Las Vegas, LeBron said, “Everybody’s been a unicorn over the last few years, but he’s one of like an alien. No one has ever seen anyone as tall as he is but as fluid and as graceful as he is out on the floor.”

Keep in mind that LeBron is not the only Top-of-the table praising Wemby as several  players including the Golden State Warriors point Guard Stephen Curry referred to  him  as  “2K create-a-player.”

Wembanyama and LeBron James are regarded as the two most hyped NBA prospects in history and the praise comes as no surprise because the game recognises the game. As seen by what LeBron James has achieved so far going on to earn the name “King”, we all are waiting to see if Wembayma could live up to the hype to achieve all the accolades his counterpart in the class of “the most hyped NBA prospects in history” LeBron James has been able to achieve in his illustrious career.

As he (Victor Wembanyama) continues being the new NBA prospect that everyone is talking about or should be talking about we will be here to see how he fairs.  

He has what it takes to become one of the league’s biggest stars because of his skills, talent, and work ethic, which are unmatched.  As seen by the pace at which he is moving, he is fierce and poised to take the league by storm.
