Joshua Carter Jackson was born on 11th June 1978, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. His father, John Jackson, was a casting director and his mother, Fiona Ferguson, was an economist. He has a sister, Aisleagh Jackson, who is also an actress and two older half brothers.

Jackson has dual Canadian and American citizenship. After his birth, the family moved to Topanga, California, where he spent his early years until he was about 8 years old. They moved back to Vancouver which is where Joshua went to school.
