9. Trae Young

Trae Young plays professionally for the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks.  Trae played basketball for the Oklahoma Sooners as a college player. With 22 assists in a single game in 2017, he equalled the previous record set by the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I. Young made NCAA history by becoming the first player to lead the league in both points and assists in the same campaign.

In exchange for the draft rights to Luka Dončić and a future first-round pick, he was dealt to the Atlanta Hawks from the Dallas Mavericks, who had taken him with the fifth overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. He and Dončić were both chosen unanimously for the 2019 NBA All-Rookie First Team.  Trae is a two-time NBA All-Star.

Zach LaVine plays shooting guard for the NBA’s Chicago Bulls. He was taken by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the 13th overall pick in the first round of the 2014 NBA Draft. He was chosen for the NBA All-Star squad in 2021 and 2022, and he also won the Slam Dunk Contest twice. He also aided the USA Olympic team to win a gold medal during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. 

He represented the UCLA Bruins in college basketball. He played at UCLA for one season before moving to the NBA after being named one of the top rookies in the Pac-12 Conference. LaVine won the league’s Slam Dunk Contest while making his NBA debut with Minnesota, and was later chosen for the NBA All-Rookie Second Team.

He played collegiate basketball for the UCLA Bruins for one season before being taken by the Los Angeles Lakers with the second overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. He was named to the unanimous first-team All-American team during that time. During his tenure at UCLA, Ball received the Wayman Tisdale Award for being the nation’s top freshman. While playing for the Los Angeles Lakers in 2018, he was chosen for the NBA All-Rookie Second Team.

LaMelo Ball plays point guard for the Charlotte Hornets of the NBA. He was selected by the Hornets as the third overall selection in the 2020 NBA Draft. Ball was chosen as the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2021, and the NBA then chose him as an All-Star for the 2022 season. Ball, a five-star talent who committed to playing basketball in college after signing with UCLA, elected to play for the Illawarra Hawks in Australia’s National Basketball League in 2019 owing to eligibility concerns. In the 2020 NBA Draft, the Charlotte Hornets selected him third overall as a result of his success with the Illawarra Hawks.

The Australian was named the unanimous first-team All-American and the USBWA National Rookie of the Year after playing one season of collegiate basketball with the LSU Tigers. As the third Melbourne-born player to be selected first overall in the NBA in 11 years, Simmons left LSU to enter the NBA draft. The Philadelphia 76ers selected Simmons with the first overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. In 2018, he was selected the 2018 league’s Rookie of the year and has received three NBA All-Star Game selections.

Daniel Green is an NBA basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers. He participated in more games (145) and recorded more victories (123) while playing collegiate basketball for the University of North Carolina (UNC), surpassing all previous Tar Heels. Green is also the only player in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) history who has recorded at least 1,000 points, achieved 500 rebounds, dished out 250 assists, made 150 three-point field goals, 150 blocks, and attained 150 steals.

He won an NCAA championship during his senior year, and the Cavaliers chose him with the 46th overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. During the 2013 NBA Finals, Green set an NBA record for the most made three-point field goals in a Finals series (23).

He became just the third UNC player, behind Michael Jordan and James Worthy, to win an NBA championship in 2014 while playing for the San Antonio Spurs. After his second championship in 2019, while playing for the Toronto Raptors, he won his third NBA title in 2020 while playing for the Los Angeles Lakers. Over his NBA career, Green, who is well-known for his perimeter defence, has made a substantial contribution on both sides of the court. During the 2016–17 season, he was selected to his first NBA All-Defensive Second Team.

Aaron Gordon plays professionally for the Denver Nuggets of the NBA. He played one season of collegiate basketball for the University of Arizona before the Magic selected him with the fourth overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Gordon has earned a reputation as one of the greatest contestants in NBA Slam Dunk Contest history. In 2016, he closely lost to Zach LaVine, and in 2020, he lost to Derrick Jones Jr.

Austin Rivers plays basketball for the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves. He was a McDonald’s All-American and a star for Team USA at the 2011 Nike Hoop Summit. He was chosen as the tenth overall pick in the NBA Draft by the New Orleans Hornets (now Pelicans), where he played for three seasons before being traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. Before being traded to the Wizards in June 2018, he spent three years with the Clippers. He signed on with the Houston Rockets in December 2018.

The Los Angeles Lakers selected Kuzma with the 27th overall pick in the first round of the 2017 NBA Draft.  Kuzma was part of the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2018. In 2020, while playing for the Lakers, he captured the NBA championship. In 2021, he was acquired by the Wizards.

18. Michael Porter Jr.

Michael Porter Jr. plays professionally for the Denver Nuggets of the National Basketball Association. He played college basketball for the Missouri Tigers and was considered one of the best prospects in the 2017 class. In the 2018 NBA Draft, the Nuggets selected him with the 14th overall pick. Porter and the Denver Nuggets agreed on a 5-year, $172 million rookie extension that will rise to $207 million if Porter is selected for an All-NBA Team on 27 September 2021.

Killian Hayes plays professionally as a point guard for the Detroit Pistons of the NBA. Hayes excelled at the youth level while playing for the French club Cholet at a young age.
