Understandably so, because of the significant landmarks from the organization in the region. Such as the Rosa Parks Museum in honor of this famous activist. Hellen Keller is another headline name you may come across in the history of Alabama’s activists. Hence, this state is the home of the civil rights movement, which started in Selma and Montgomery.
 
Besides activism, this southeastern part of the country is also known for its southern hospitality and warm and friendly people. And did you know that Alabama is one of the largest peanut producers in the United States? The National Peanut Festival is hosted here. Courtney Bass Cox is an American actress and filmmaker who was born in Birmingham, Alabama on the 15th of June 1964. She is globally known for her starring role on the NBC sitcom Friends, where she played the role of Monica Geller, one of the six friends.
 
The sitcom ran from 1994 to 2004. She was nominated for seven Screen Actors Guild Awards for this role and won one of the awards. Courtney also appeared in films like Scream, Scream 2, Scream 3, Scream 4, and Cougar Town. She was married to David Arquette from 1999 to 2013 and together they have one daughter, Coco Arquette.

Channing Matthew Tatum is an American actor who is appreciated for his good looks and charming physique. Channing was born in Cullman, Alabama on April 26, 1980. Hellen Adams Keller was an American author, political activist, lecturer, and disability rights, advocate. She was born in west Tuscumbia, Alabama on 27th June 1880. Hellen lost her hearing and her sight when she was 19 months old. She was the first deafblind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree. She strongly advocated for those with vision loss all over the world from 1924 to 1968 when she worked for the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB).
 
Additionally, she wrote 14 books and hundreds of essays. She also gave speeches and lectures on a variety of topics. Her activism ranged from women’s suffrage, persons with disabilities, labor rights, and world peace. She was a founding member of the American Civil Liberties Union. Her autobiography was adopted as a play and a film. Her birthplace has been made a National Historic Landmark. 

4. Rosa Parks

 
Rosa Louise McCauley Parks was an American activist in the civil rights movement who is known worldwide for her activism. Rosa was born in Tuskegee, Alabama on February 4th, 1913. She had a pivotal role in the Montgomery Bus Boycott when she refused to give up her bus seat for a white person. So she was arrested for civil disobedience in violating Alabama segregation laws.
 
Afterward, she inspired a year-long Montgomery busses Boycott by the black community, which resulted in bus segregation being declared unconstitutional. The United States Congress named her “the first lady of civil rights” and “the mother of the freedom movement”.

Radric Delantic Davis, who is more known by his rap name, Gucci Mane, is an American rapper. Gucci was born on February 12, 1980, in Bessemer, Alabama. He is mostly known for pioneering the beginning of trap, a subgenre of hip-hop music, together with rapper T.I and Young Jeezy in the 2000s and the 2010s.
 
Gucci has released 14 albums and 71 mixtapes since 2005. His fourth studio album, The State vs. Radric Davis, was his first gold-certified album. He founded his label, 1017 Records, in 2007. He has collaborated with artists such as Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, Selena Gomez, The Weeknd, Mariah Carey, and others. Gucci Mane is married to Keyshia Ka’oir, and together they have one son, Ice Davis.

Robin Roberts is a broadcaster at America’s ABC where he is the anchor of Good Morning America. She was the first woman of color and openly LGBTQ member to host Jeopardy!, an American game show. She was born in Tuskegee, Alabama on 23rd November 1960. Robin grew up in Pass Christian, Mississippi, but Tuskegee still counts as her birthplace.
 
She was an ESPN sportscaster for 15 years from 1995 to 2005. She has been a sportscaster on five different American television stations. Robin celebrated her 20th anniversary with Good Morning America on April 2022. Roberts has received many awards for her broadcast career. She had the honor of co-anchoring Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in 2018. Robin is married to Amber Laign since 2005.

Timothy Donald Cook is an American business executive who succeeded Steve Jobs as the chief executive officer of Apple Inc. in 2011. Tim was born in Mobile, Alabama on November 1st, 1960. His previous positions at Apple Inc. were senior vice president and executive vice president. During his tenure at the company, he has doubled its profit and revenue, and the company’s market value increased by more than 1.5 trillion. Tim Cook is the first CEO of a Fortune 500 company to openly come out as gay. 

8. Debby Ryan

 
Deborah Ann Ryan, popular as Debby Ryan, is an American singer and actress. She was born in Huntsville, Alabama on 13th May 1993. She moved around when she was young, but she stayed in Germany till she was ten. She began acting when she was seven in professional theatres in Germany. Later she moved back to Texas, the U.S. 2003, where she grew up.
 
Her first television show was Barney & Friends in 2006. She has been featured in movies like The Longshots, The Suite Life on Deck, and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. She has starred in movies like What If…, 16 Wishes, Radio Rebel, Daytime Divas, and Insatiable.

Lionel Brockman Richie Jr. is a singer, songwriter, record producer, and television personality, who is celebrated globally for his music. He was born in Tuskegee, Alabama on 20th June 1949. His popularity began in the 70s as the co-lead singer and songwriter of the Commodores. With the Commodores, he recorded hit songs like Easy, Sail On, Still, and Three Times a Lady.
 
To boot, he launched his career as a solo artist in 1982 with his album Lionel Richie. His bestselling album was his second, Can’t Slow Down (1983), which sold over 20 million copies across the world. Lionel has produced ten studio albums since 1983, and his latest one is Tuskegee (2012).

Charles Wade Barkley is a former basketball player who played for sixteen seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Charles was born in Leeds, Alabama on February 20, 1963, where he grew up and studied.
 
He played for the Philadelphia 76ers from 1984 to 1992, Phoenix Suns from 1992 to 1996, and Houston Rockets from 1996 to 2000. He was an NBA All-Star eleven times and the 1993 NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP). After his retirement in 2000, he went on to become a television analyst on TNT.

Ned Vaughn grew up in Huntsville, Alabama, and began acting at the age of eight in a community theater production of “Oliver!” He found quick success in TV commercials and auditioned for the lead role in the feature film “The Rescue” and was eventually cast as the heroic son of a captured Navy Seal. After shooting the film in New Zealand and Hong Kong, he relocated to Los Angeles, where he has lived and worked since.

He previously served as vice president of the Screen Actors Guild before becoming SAG-AFTRA’s founding executive vice president. He resigned from that position on August 21, 2013, and announced his candidacy as a Republican for California’s 66th State Assembly District, which represents Los Angeles County’s South Bay region.

16. Hank Aaron

Hank Aaron was born on February 5, 1934, in Mobile, Alabama, and began honing his baseball skills while still a child. He is best known for breaking Babe Ruth’s record of 714 home runs, eventually reaching 755, which stood from 1974 to 2007. Aaron spent 21 seasons with the Milwaukee and then Atlanta Braves, making the National League All-Star team every year from 1955 to 1974.

He won three Gold Gloves in the outfield and still holds the records for most runs batted in and extra-base hits. Aaron was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1982, receiving 97.8 percent of the votes cast. In 2002, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor.

17. Jesse Owens

Jesse Owens, nicknamed “The Buckeye Bullet,” was an American track and field athlete who won four gold medals and set two world records at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. Owens began his athletic career in high school, winning three track and field events at the 1933 National Interscholastic Championships. Two years later, while competing for Ohio State University, he tied one world record and broke three more before qualifying for and competing in the 1936 Olympics.

He is best known for his performances at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, where he won gold medals in the long jump, 100- and 200-meter dashes, and the 4 x 100-meter relay. He was the first American track and field athlete to win four gold medals at the same Olympic Games.

18. Nat King Cole

Nat “King” Cole (1919-1965) was a key figure in American popular music during the 1940s and 1950s. He was a popular jazz pianist, composer, and singer known for his smooth, silky voice. He was the first African American artist to host his own television show and fought for civil rights in a determined yet understated manner. He remains one of Alabama’s most well-known sons. Cole was inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame in 1985, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. 

19. Mae Carol Jemison

As a doctor, engineer, and NASA astronaut, Mae Jemison has always aimed for the stars. She made history in 1992 as the first African American woman to travel to space. She has also written several books and appeared on numerous television shows, including one episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. In addition to her numerous awards, Jemison has been inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame and the International Space Hall of Fame.

Jemison is currently leading the 100-Year Starship project for the United States Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). This project aims to ensure that human space travel to another star is possible within the next 100 years. She is also a member of the National Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Medicine and has been honored by the National Women’s Hall of Fame, the National Medical Association Hall of Fame, and the Texas Science Hall of Fame.

As an influential figure in the deaf community and the first woman with a disability to win Miss America, she demonstrates that growing up deaf does not have to limit your ambitions, but rather inspires you to achieve more than you ever imagined.
