Times Square, where do I begin? If you’re looking for something to eat, the options here are endless. So endless, in fact, that you’re actually going to struggle to pick a single spot in which to settle.

I’ve got some favorites, so if you’re into great food and escaping the touristic chaos — read on!

10 Best Things to do in Times Square

1. Becco near Times Square, New York

It’s no secret that some of the best Italian food in the USA can be found in New York City, especially in and around the Times Square district.

Becco is the more affordable sibling to Lidia Bastianich’s Felicia restaurant, that also calls the streets of NYC home. In my opinion, as far as food and drink selections go, this is a fantastic spot near the square.

The coconut old fashioned is not to be missed, and I highly recommend the chicken pot pie.

Since you’re in the area, why not eat Cuban? I love this spot on 44th street, especially when I’m craving something low-key and quick!

When I say low-key, I mean it. Over the counter service of classic Cuban cuisine makes this a hidden gem in the Times Square district. It’s incredibly authentic — the server has been there for over 50 years!

Come for the sangria, and stay for the green sauce (put it on everything… and I mean, everything). If you’re dining with around 4 people, consider the matador combo menu!

You’d be remiss to miss out on the Empanada Mama experience while in NYC. This is the Hells Kitchen branch and it’s the nearest one to Times Square.

This Latin American eatery is empanada heaven, and the fact that they are open 24/7 has everyone in NYC hoping one will open on a street near them.

6. Farida near Times Square, New York

Farida is a central Asian eatery that serves up unique halal dishes right from the heart of Manhattan. Within walking distance of Times Square, this is my go-to when I just need to be grounded by some aromatic food in a rustic, non chaotic setting.

There’s nothing like an ice cold Farida tomato salad on a hot day in the big city.

7. Tim Ho Wan near Times Square, New York

Say it with me: Fresh, melt-in-your-mouth, dim sum!

Tim Ho Wan is another Times Square favorite, and loved by many (and not just because they’re one of few Asian restaurants not serving spring rolls made solely of cabbage!).

The food is perfect, the staff are friendly and prices are high (it’s New York, honey).

The MáLà Project is the hippest Chinese eatery in all of NYC, in my humble opinion. I love dining here, and the service is quick enough that you can have a hearty meal right before your show on Broadway (and still make it there on foot).

If you don’t like spicy food — mention it to them at the time of ordering!

The name itself should be reason enough to visit, but if soup dumplings aren’t something you’ve experienced yet in this life, prepare to be totally amazed.

I love a good afternoon spent in Joe’s. It’s a dynamic, yet understated, spot for traditional Shanghai cuisine right in the heart of the Big Apple. The tastiest dumplings this side of broadway, hands down.
