Best things to do in Paris tenth district

Today’s post is all about discovering the best things to do in Paris tenth district! Located on the Right Bank, Paris tenth district is home to the city’s largest train stations, Gare du Nord and Gare du l’Est. Due to its proximity to the train stations, the tenth district has historically been a most immigrant, working-class neighbourhood. In recent years, the tenth has been growing in popularity, now a chic, bobo neighbourhood which still manages to hold onto its roots. There’s so much to see and do in the tenth district, I hope you’ll enjoy discovering this amazing part of Paris!

This article has my recommendations for the best things to do in Paris tenth district. Different cultures such as Indian, Magrheb and West African run strong in the tenth district, and these influences give the area a rich diversity. Cute cafés, exceptional bakeries, and boutique shopping are just some of the best things to do in Paris tenth district. Read on to explore some of my favourite parts of the lively tenth district!

Take a stroll along Canal Saint-Martin

One of the best things to do in Paris tenth district is to enjoy a stroll along the Canal Saint-Martin. This narrow canal runs from the nineteenth district, through the tenth district and empties into the Seine. The canal was actually commissioned in 1802 by Napoleon himself, in order to bring drinking water to Northeastern Paris. The waterway is lined with cobblestone paths and beautiful, tall trees which give it a relaxing atmosphere.

The Canal Saint-Martin is the perfect place for a walk in Paris! To see the most beautiful parts,  I would recommend that you follow the canal until the Basin de la Villette. All along the canal, you’ll find lots of benches if you feel like taking a break. During warmer months, the canal is a popular Parisian picnic spot, and this is a great way to enjoy the canal!

Try some of the best pastries in Paris at Du Pain et des Idées

This little bakery on rue Yves Toudic has delicious pastries and coffee. The quality and friendly salespeople make Du Pain et des Idées next on my list of the best things to do in Paris tenth district! They use ancient French baking techniques and only the highest quality, organic ingredients, so your tastebuds won’t be disappointed!

My recommendation would be to try their famous pistachio/chocolate escargot pastry, and their banana pain au chocolat! There are so many delicious choices, I know you’ll love this friendly little bakery. It’s best to go early in the morning when it’s less busy. This way, you can enjoy your coffee and pastry at one of the tables outside.

Parisian shopping on Rue du Chateau d’Eau and Rue Beaurepaire

If you’re hoping to find some cool souvenirs or a little bit of Parisian style to take home, you’ll want to check out the shops on Rue du Chateau d’Eau and Rue Beaurepaire. The neighbourhood’s cultural diversity make local shopping one of the best things to do in Paris tenth district. On the busy Rue du Chateau d’Eau, you can find lots of chic home decor boutiques, as well as neighbourhood staples. At stores such as La Trésorie and Jamini, there are lots of unique treasures, and pieces with modern Indian and Maghreb influences.

For some Parisian style inspiration, head over to Rue Beaurepaire. This quiet street leading up to the Canal Saint-Martin is lined with stylish clothing boutiques. There’s a great mix between brands like The Kooples, A.P.C., Agnès b. and small stores featuring chic local designs. Parisians love this area because it’s less busy than the big shopping streets or department stores. Plus, not too many people know about the awesome shopping in this area, so you’ll really be discovering a local secret!

Check out the lively Marché Saint-Quentin

A true Parisian institution, this covered farmer’s market has been around since 1866! Up next on my list of the best things to do in Paris tenth district is Marché Saint-Quentin. Located at 85bis Boulevard de Magenta, the variety and lively atmosphere at Marché Saint-Quentin make it worth a visit!

Perfect for gathering picnic supplies, grabbing a great bite to eat or simply exploring, you’ll love Marché Saint-Quentin. If you want to experience the true diversity of Paris, this market is the perfect place to start discovering. Inside, you’ll find a great range of fresh products from all over the world. An Italian deli, farm-fresh dairy stands, organic food stalls, a Moroccan deli, beautiful florists and exotic fruit stands are just some of the treasures this market holds. Home to plenty of food stalls and cafés, Marché Saint-Quentin is also a great place to dine-in. Offering traditional African cuisine, Portuguese specialities, Moroccan baked goods, fresh seafood and great wine, there’s really something for everyone!

Discover the heart and soul of Paris tenth district on Rue Sainte-Marthe

Finally, one of the best things to do in Paris tenth district is to explore the Rue Sainte-Marthe neighbourhood. This seemingly quiet, colourful street in Paris comes alive in the afternoon and evening, with cool bars, live music, DJ sets, street art and plenty of dining options. The allure of Rue Sainte-Marthe lies in its local charm, imbibed by generations of artists, musicians and a multicultural background. This area makes up the beating heart and dancing soul of Paris tenth district, you won’t want to miss it! A true local favourite, you won’t spot many tourists or casual passerby on this Parisian street!

I would recommend that you enjoy an afternoon stroll along Rue Sainte-Marthe, taking in the colourful buildings and charming, small-town feel. There are lots of cool shops along this street with chic housewares and gifts, perfect for an authentic souvenir of Paris! Once it’s evening, the Rue Sainte-Marthe is a great place to enjoy an apéro and catch some live music.

Now you have my recommendations for the best things to do in Paris tenth district! I really hope that you’ve enjoyed this article and that you’ll take the chance to discover this special part of Paris! Don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions about Paris or if you have any recommendations of your own. Hope to see you soon in Paris tenth district!
