The Best Dentists in Bangkok

Bangkok is not only one of the world’s most-visited tourist destinations, it is also high on the list of many medical tourism destinations –- and the amount of people traveling to the Thai capital for dental work seems to be growing gradually and significantly as well.

Along with all manner of healthcare, including various specialised and cosmetic surgeries, dentistry is big in Bangkok.

There are actually so many dental clinics established here now that anyone looking for a spot of tooth work would likely be spoilt for choice –-  but it is always worth having the ‘heads up’ on the ‘ins-and-outs’ of getting any dental work done abroad, and it definitely pays to have at least some ideas about a few of the best options — especially if you are considering a trip to Bangkok for just that reason.

So — as with the hospitals in Thailand, and particularly those found in Bangkok, it is no surprise to stumble across the fact that that the majority of Thai dental facilities are of a high standard.

The ones that most foreigners might be most attracted or suited to, however, are likely to be more on the international standard, English-speaking affairs, many of which offer special ‘promotions’ and  other packages to medical tourists and such like.

And although it might be worth bearing in mind that there is a general, underlying feeling held by many Thais that some of these privately-owned facilities may also be akin to recommending a variety of add-ons that are not always necessary, especially for foreigners but also for locals — this is business — one shouldn’t be overly-cynical about such matters.

Thailand was actually the first country In Asia to receive the international JCI dental accreditation, an initiative which originated in the U.S. with the intention of establishing globalized standards in healthcare quality. And the fact that you can find a seven-story, purpose-built dental facility with over 80 specialists (like the internationally accredited  BIDC featured in this article), goes some way to explaining how serious a venture going to the dentist can be in Bangkok.

This particular affair, like many others, even has its own boutique hotel, with a service and environment geared towards offering international patients a one-stop-shop for their dental care.

And many visitors to Thailand’s capital may come here for their dental treatment because they believe that overall costs are much cheaper than found at home.

However, while this may certainly have been true in the past, and may possibly still be true to some degree — it is becoming increasingly debatable due to ever-growing prices caused by higher rental costs, and more so with the varying international exchange rates according to the strength of the baht.

Standards

Dentists in Thailand undergo basically the same kind of in-depth training as dentists in Western cultures, and in fact, many dentists have received at least some of their training in the US, the UK or Australia, or at least any form of specialist has.

It’s true of course that not every clinic in the land-of-smiles is blessed with the best training, facilities, and English skills in the world — but if you stick to the ones in our guide here, or any other similar ones that you might happen across — then you need not worry too much about standards.

Most of the best dental clinics in Thailand comprise the latest, state-of-the-art dental technology and equipment such as digital panoramic x-ray, CT scanning equipment, 3D CAD/CAM, and they have in-house laboratories. The top-notch facilities and variety of dental treatments continue to attract patients from other countries near and far, particularly those looking for extensive treatments such as full mouth rehabilitation and/or implants.

Anyone who has been to Thailand before has likely witnessed its peoples’ predilection for all things cosmetic, and many clinics have strong reputations for this specialty. Undoubtedly this carries over into cosmetic dentistry, from simple teeth whitening procedures to veneers, dentures, and implants etc.

So if you are planning a dental trip to Bangkok in Thailand, hopefully this short guide will provide a few useful reference points. Once you have seen some of the best dental clinics that Bangkok has to offer, you may begin to realise why it is truly known as the land of smiles!

1. Bangkok International Dental Hospital (BIDH)

Bangkok International Dental Hospital is a subsidiary of the massive Dental Corporation Public Company Limited, a dental group conglomerate with over more than a decade’s worth of experience in the provision of quality and professional dental care.

BIDH was, in fact, one of Thailand’s first officially licensed and specialist dental facilities, and the prime focus of the facility is to offer international quality services to both local and international patients.

The dentistry team is comprised of top specialists within the field who are more than familiar with dealing with foreign patients, and of course many of the staff are not only internationally-graduated, but also American dental board-certified.

Smile Signature is in the heart of Bangkok’s trendy shopping district, in Siam Square, and is part of yet another established chain of dental clinics in Thailand known for its quality treatment of both local and international patients over more than a decade.

Each clinic is set up with the aim of providing above average dental care in a modern, hygienic, and friendly environment designed with the comfort of patients in mind. The clinic takes pride in the approachable and dedicated nature of its staff, the integral component behind the successful and efficient operation of all clinics.

Most of the in-house dentists have undergone international training in prestigious dental schools in London, and Los Angeles, and many dental practitioners have individual professional expertise in the various areas of dentistry.

The usual high-standard of contemporary equipment with state-of-the-art features can be found at Smile Signature, which they believe facilitates accurate diagnoses and treatment. The clinic naturally has its own in-house dental laboratories, which are especially useful for extensive and aesthetic work like crowns, veneers, implants and dentures, and – as the team advises – ‘if the need arises, we can tend to you more quickly and efficiently because our facility is so well-equipped’.

The hygiene standards are followed closely in the majority of modern, city-centre, Bangkok dental facilities such as Smile, and this often includes the almost constant monitoring of treatment rooms and equipment, with international standards being the requirement – and this is often followed to the letter.in terms of hygiene.

The holistic approach to dentistry in the clinic is geared towards efficient and gentle care, whether for a straightforward, single dental filling, or a full-on dental makeover.

Smile’s holistic-type approach is applied to everything, from pre-treatment plan drafts  (sent by e-mail) to full-on reconstructive surgery, with patient care again being at the forefront of the clinic’s approach.
