Barbès is one of the most underrated neighborhood in Paris when it comes to eating out. Forget about the expensive and overrated Brasserie Barbès; the neighborhood is full of hidden spots offering mouth-watering and affordable cuisines.

Wondering what the 10 best restaurants in Barbès are? Keep reading!

1. Noun

All the times I have eaten at Noun were amongst my most memorable culinary experiences in Paris. This Mediterranean restaurant serves incredible and sophisticated cuisine bursting with flavors. The chef writes the menu every once in a while depending on the ingredients of the season.

Their prices are more expensive than the rest of the neighborhood (count between 15 and 25€ for a dish), but they have the option of taking half of the dish (and hence dividing the price per 2, which can make for a very affordable two courses meal).

2. Brasserie de la Goutte d’or

For the same prices as the Brasserie Barbès, the Brasserie de la Goutte d’Or serves excellent artisanal beers. While it is not exactly a restaurant, I would recommend it for all the beers lovers looking for an excellent artisanal beers spot.

And if you are hungry, they serve really good tapas too! The portions are not big enough to keep you full or replace a meal, but they are excellent snacks to enjoy alongside your beer.

3. N’nafé

N’nafé is a family owned traditional restaurant offering West African cuisine. All their ingredients are fresh, the spices are well-balanced, and all their dishes are full of flavors and guaranteed to make you travel.

Don’t be fooled by its modest appearance and decoration: the food is fresh and the flavors are enchanting.

If you have doubts about what you would like to discover, I recommend you do not hesitate to ask the staff, they are incredibly welcoming and helpful.

Everything is prepared there on the spot, so know that if you come too late, there is a possibility that the team will tell you to come another time since they do not have anything left.

4. Atelier Ramey

Every now and then, I like to splurge and offer myself a fine yet still affordable evening out. L’Atelier Ramey is amongst my favorite restaurants do to so. It does not run cheap (count 39€ for a three course meal), but their cuisine is simple excellent.

They serve modern French bistro cuisine and it is to my mind the best place if you are looking to experience a Parisian dinner composed of fresh and mouth-watering ingredients assembled to perfection.

If you have never had foie gras (famous French goose liver), I think Atelier Ramey is the perfect place to have it. They poach it in red wine and serve it with grated red beetroot.

5. BOULOM

BOULOM is kind of a UFO on the Parisian food scene – I do not know any other restaurant that offers the same concept.

It is an open-bar all you can eat buffet, but filled with incredibly tasty and fresh bistronomic cuisine. The formula is 29€ at lunchtime, but be warned: if you leave uneaten food in your plate, you pay 2€ per 100g – the chef’s way of fighting food waste.

You can also buy delicious pastries in their pastry shop – my personal favorite is their incredible fig and raspberry pie.

6. La Traversée

In my honest opinion, la Traversée is one of the best restaurants of the neighborhood. The dishes are original and inventive but somehow manage to create widespread consensus – all of my friends who have been were enchanted.

The staff is welcoming and the restaurant possesses a really decent choice of French wines.

I usually go to le Riv’k when I am feeling like eating something original, fresh yet incredibly comforting. This restaurant serves fusion middle-eastern cuisine made of fresh ingredients on a menu that regularly changes depending on the ingredients available on the markets.

Bonus Point: they make a point in offering a vegetarian option every time the menu changes.

9. La Portena

La Portena is the kind of addresses that I love – fresh, simple and affordable. They serve Argentinian cuisine (empenadas, tortillas, chipacitos), made simply and without pretention with fresh ingredients.

I go there when looking for a very affordable and efficient cuisine that is full of flavors but without being groundbreaking or original: simply the taste of well-made Argentinian classics.

10. Le Rosie

Once again, not exactly a restaurant – but rather an iconic bar that serves excellent cocktails and a selection of tapas and finger food.

The atmosphere is cozy and Scandinavian, but at night, the place lightens up with fine dj sets and it is not rare to see people dancing inside the tiny bar!
