The City lies on Absecon Island. It is bordered from different directions by Absecon, Ventnor, and Brigantine. Also, Pleasantville, the Atlantic Ocean, and Egg Harbor Township are part of its neighbors.

Absecon Island’s growth began in 1850 steered by engineer Richard Osborne and Dr. Jonathan Pitney. This attracted summer visitors such as the tribe of Lenni-Lenape.

The accessibility of the region brought visitors from across the globe. Atlantic City was birthed out of this and grew into a well-known tourist destination.

In 1870, Alexander Boardman who was a railroad conductor invented the Boardwalk. He intended to protect the hotels and cars near the railroad. The beach sand blew on the railroad establishments.
