Other than being a beautiful place to visit, Switzerland is also a place that has produced top talents in various sectors including acting and sporting activities. Several top actors are from Switzerland and have taken the industry by storm.

Some of these actors lived their great lives in the 19th century entertaining people with great pieces of acting and drama. Others are currently making top movies that people across the world enjoy watching as many other actors are being made.

1. Bruno Ganz

Born on March 22nd 1941, Bruno Ganz was a famous Swiss actor whose career in German stage, television and film production spanned nearly sixty years. Ganz is widely known for his great collaborations with the directors Werner Herzog, Eric Rohmer, Francis Ford Coppola and Wim Wenders.

These collaborations earned Bruno Ganz widespread recognition worldwide until he passed on in 2019. He played major roles as Jonathan Zimmerman in the American Friend film of 1977, Jonathan Harker in Nosferatu the Vampire and Damiel the Angel in Wings of Desire.

Bruno Ganz won several awards and accolades in his brilliant acting career due to his brilliant performances on stage and in films. He garnered more than ten top awards and honours in his acting career.

Born Theodor Friedrich Emil Janenz, Emil Jannings was a popular actor in the 1920s in Hollywood. Emil was the first recipient of the Academy Award for Best Actor in his roles in The Last Command and The Way of All Fresh.

As of 2022, the Switzerland-born German Actor is the only German to have ever won this category. During his acting career, Emil was a fan favourite who used to have a huge fan base across the world. Emil starred in several Nazi propaganda films which made him unemployed.

Simon was born in Geneva to a Catholic butcher and a protestant mother on 9th April 1895. He left his family back in Geneva as he went to Paris to make a life for himself.

Michel Simon had to take a couple of jobs to survive in his new home in France. He gave boxing lessons and peddled smuggled lighters before he worked as a magician, clown and acrobat.

His acting career became a huge success after decided to venture into the industry due to an influence from Georges Pitoeff. Simon appeared in several notable films including La Chienne, Boudu Saved from Drowning and many more.

Ursula is a Swiss actress, former model and sex symbol who has made several appearances in American, British and Italian films. She was born to a Swiss mother and a German father who was a diplomat.

However, her father was expelled from Switzerland for political reasons making Ursula be raised by her grandfather. Ursula has credit for several films she has appeared in during her career.

Her breakthrough in the industry came in the role of Bond girl Honey Ryder in the first James Bond film. She also starred in several movies that made her more renowned across the world.

Mario Adorf was born in Zurich as an illegitimate child of an Italian surgeon, Matteo Menniti and his mother Alice Adorf, a German medical assistant. Adorf rose to fame in Europe as well as made appearances in international films including Ten Little Indians and Smilla’s Sense of Snow.

He has been active from 1954 to the present day and is considered a great veteran character actor of European cinema. Adorf has over 200 film and television appearances which earned him awards like the Oscar awards in 1979.

She was born on 28th January 1945 and is a renowned Swiss actress and opera director. Marthe Keller is best known for her major role in the film Marathon Man of 1976. Through this film, Marthe was nominated for a Golden Globe Award.
