10 FAMOUS PORTUGUESE ACTORS


 

Portugal is located in western Europe. The amazing historical landscapes and cities are sites to behold. The country is known for its gastronomy and tasteful wines. The Portuguese are a blend of amazing personalities with recognized talents including ancient explorers like Vasco Da Gama world-class footballers like the icon Ronaldo and various actors who have contributed to the country’s greatness.

1. Joaquim de Almeida

Joaquim António Portugal Baptista de Almeida is an award-winning Portuguese actor born on 15 March 1957. He began his acting career at the age of 18 at the Lisbon Conservatory School of Theatre and Cinema for two years and later furthered his studies at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute of Performing Arts. His debut film was The Soldier (1982). He was recognized for his role in the famous Italian film, Good Morning, Babylon. He has starred in high-rated films such as the Fast Five, The Hitman’s Bodyguard, and Queen of the South. He was awarded the CvIH, a Portuguese order of knighthood by the president of Portugal.  He also won the Best Actor Award in 2017 and 2018 at the Imagen Awards among other accolades.

2. Diogo Morgado

Diogo Miguel Morgado Soares is 41 years-old Portuguese who established his career path at the age of fifteen in top-rated soap operas. He is famously known for his roles as Jesus in the films The Bible and Son of God which earned him the nickname “hot Jesus” in one of the interviews on the Oprah Winfrey Show. He was the protagonist in the 2011Emmy award-winning Portuguese soap opera titled Mapa.

3. Paulino Nunes

Paulino Cabral Mendonça Nunes was born on 27 April 1968. He is versatile and has appeared and starred in various films and television series. He is best known for his characters in Brooklyn (2015), Designated Survivor (2016), and Shadow Hunters (2016).  He has acted in pieces by famous playwrights in history including William Shakespeare and Pierre Corneille.

4. José Fidalgo

José Fidalgo is an actor and model. He was born on 5 August 1979 and started his career in theatres before venturing into tv commercials. He became actively engaged in tv series in early 2000. He is known for God to Save the King (2018) and Amor Maior (2016). He is also popular for his good-looking appearance, really appreciated by the female (and male) audience for his good-looking appearance.

5. Luís Gaspar

Luís Gaspar was born on 31 December 1973 in Lisbon, Portugal. Growing up, Gaspar traveled a lot, exposing him to different cultures and perceptions of life. His father was a director cum producer and therefore plaid an important role in shaping Gaspar’s acting career. He is known for films such as Tabu (2012), Mulheres (2014), and Rainha das Flores (2016).

6. João Catarré

João Ricardo Rosa Catarré was born on 5 August 1980. He started as a model and was the face of various commercials before settling for the showbiz industry. He continued working for various advertising companies while taking up roles in various television series and films. He is known for the famous Portuguese series Strawberries with Sugar taking up the role of a character named ‘Pipo’. He is also the voice behind various animated characters such as the superhero dog Bolt.  He is interested in volleyball and has even participated in various beach volleyball competitions.

7. Albano Jeronimo

Albano Jeronimo is an award-winning Portuguese actor born on 30 July 1979. He attended a course at the School of Theatre and Cinema in Lisbon which aligned his path to acting. He started out showcasing his talent in theatres before venturing into cinematography. He won the best actor award in the movie Shortcutz Anesthesia Pedro Varela in 2009. In one of his plays, Miss Julie by August Strindberg he was nominated for a Golden Globe award for the best actor. He is well known for his roles in Vikings as Euphemius,

8. Nuno Lopes

Born on 6 May 1978, Nuno Miguel Pereira Lopes is a seasoned actor with exceptional experience in theatre. His career began after enrolling at the Lisbon Theatre and Film School. Upon graduation, he attended the Master Class at the École des Maîtres and invested in studying abroad to complement his acting career. He is popular for his role in Saint George which was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards.

9. José Countess

José Countess is a young and promising actor born on 6 June 1997. His parents noticed his potential for acting when he was still a toddler. To further his interest in acting, he was enrolled in the amateur theatre at Academia de Santo Amaro where he excelled. He later advanced his training at the Cascais Professional Theater School. His professional debut in the theatres was at Companhia do Teatro Experimental de Cascais. He ventured into television making his first appearance in 2014. He takes up popular roles in soap operas and telenovelas such as known for O Som Que Desce a Terra (2021), Run for Your Lives (2020), and A Herdeira (2017).

10. Ângelo Rodrigues

Ângelo André Rodrigues Araújo is a 35 years old actor. He was exposed to the acting industry in amateur theatres. After his interest developed, he enrolled in professional training which greatly built his character in acting. His debut on Tv was in 2006. He specialized in telenovelas among them Laços de Sangue which won an Emmy award for best telenovela category in 2011 and also scooped the Trophy for Best Soap Opera 2011 in the 7 Days TV Trophies in 2012. He was awarded the special “Television Revelation Award” in 2012 after he starred in the famous telenovela Rosa Fogo (The Fire of the Rose)
