Vanessa Chantal Paradis is a French actress, model and a singer. With the international success of her single “Joe le taxi” at the age of 14, Paradis became a child star.

At the age of 18, she received France’s highest honors as a singer and actress, receiving the Prix Romy Schneidern and the César Award for Most Promising Actress for Jean-Claude Brisseau’s Noce Blanche and the Victoires de la Musique for Best Female Vocalist for her album Variations on the same.

Her tribute to Jeanne Moreau at the 1995 Cannes Film Festival, in which they sang “Le Tourbillon” in duet, became well-known in French popular culture.  For her performance in the play Maman, she was nominated for a Molière Award for Best Actress in 2022.

She has also served as a model for a number of musicians and lyricist. Paradis has appeared on the covers of over 300 magazines around the world. She has been a Chanel spokes model since 1991.

1. Paradis started singing at a young age

Vanessa Paradis was born on December 22, 1972, in France, to Andre and Corinee Paradis. Her parents both worked as interior designers. She, on the other hand, developed a strong interest in singing at a young age.

She began singing at the age of eight before being taken by his uncle, a record producer, to the famous TV show, L’ecole Des Fans (The School of Fans).

2. Paradis recorded her first single at the age of 11

Vanessa Paradis was 11 years old when she recorded her first single, La Magie des surprises-parties, in 1983. This single earned her a spot at an Italian festival a few years later.

Joe le Taxi, her first album, went on to become an international hit. For 11 weeks, this album was number one in France. She also released her debut album, M&J, at the age of 14.

In the late 1980s, she dropped out of school to pursue a career. She intended to give her all in her career in order to be more successful. In 1990, Vanessa Paradis released Variations Sur le meme t’aime and starred in Noce Blanche. She received a Caesar Award at the time.

3. Vanessa Paradis toured the world

Vanessa Paradis later spent years performing live all over the world. During this time, she released her five live alba, Live. Her tour was titled National High Tour, and she was able to tour England, France, and Canada. The 1990s were a pivotal period in Paradis’ acting career, during which she appeared in films such as Un Amour de Sorciere, Une Chance Sur Deux, and La FilleSurLe Pont.

After briefly modeling for Chanel in the early 2000s, Vanessa Paradis released her new album, Divinidylle. The new album was released in the United Kingdom.  She received two awards for it.

She went on to release an acoustic album before starring in Café de Florein in 2011. In 2013, she co-wrote a song called “Love Songs” with Benjamin Biolay. Various people, including Biolay and Mickael Furnon, contributed to the album’s writing.

Paradis appeared in Un amour de sorcière with Jeanne Moreau and Jean Reno in 1997, followed by Une chance sur deux with Alain Delon and Jean-Paul Belmondo in 1998.

Patrice Leconte’s La Fille sur le Pont was released in March 1999. This film was shot in black and white and released in that format. In 2004, she promoted Chanel’s new Ligne Cambon handbags.

She modeled for Chanel again in 2005 for The New Mademoiselle purse. She modeled for Miu Miu in 2008. Meanwhile, in 2006, she was featured in the French children’s album and concert Le Soldat Rose.

6. Vanessa Paradis’ love life

At the age of 15, Paradis began dating Florent Pagny, a 26-year-old French singer. They split up in 1991. She was in a relationship with Lenny Kravitz from 1991 to 1996. He also produced her 1992 self-titled album.

From 1997 to 1998, she dated French actor Stanislas Merhar. Paradis was in a relationship with American actor Johnny Depp from 1998 to 2012. Lily-Rose Depp (born 1999) is their daughter, as well as a son born in 2002.

Vanessa Paradis confirmed her relationship with French singer Benjamin Biolay at a Chanel show in Dubai in May 2014. They split up in May 2015.

 She began dating Samuel Benchetrit, who directed her in his fifth film, Dog, in November 2016. Paradis and Benchetrit married in Saint-Simeon in June 2018.

7. Paradis’ baby daddy bought her a house

Johnny Deep bought a five-bedroom Mediterranean-style home off Mulholland Drive in Hollywood for Paradis and their children Lily-Rose, 13, and Jack, nine.

The Hollywood Hills house has beamed ceilings and an outdoor pool.

In November 2010, Paradis released Une nuit à Versailles, an acoustic album. During her Vanessa Paradis Concert Acoustique Tour. The album was recorded at L’Opéra of the Palace of Versailles. 

In 2010, she also released Anthologie, a collection of rare live performances and interviews from 1987 to 2007. 

In 2010, she was named the face of Chanel’s new Rouge Coco lipstick. She also became the face of their new Ranger purse line.

Her international tour in 2011 included stops in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe, and Turkey.

9. Paradis received $150 million settlement from Johnny Deep

In 2012, Depp and Paradis went their separate ways after 14 years together . Johnny Deep paid Paradis $150 million after they split. Depp chose to pay Paradis $150 million to keep their split “amicable.” This is because they were not married.

10. Paradis modeled with her daughter for Chanel
