Kim Chui, full name Kimberly Sue Yap Chiu was born on 19th April 1990 in Cebu City, Philippines. She is a Filipino actress, singer, dancer, model, host, and vlogger.

She has been an active actor since 2006 when she made her acting debut. Kim has starred in several films and tv series and also hosted popular live television programs.

She is what many can describe as a serial winner She has picked up a plethora of awards in all her ventures in the entertainment industry. Below are some remarkable about the life of Kim Chiu.

1. She Made Her Acting Debut At 16 Years of Age

On April 23rd, 2006, Kim entered the Big Brother House for the Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition series. She had left her home in Cebu and moved to Manila for this role.

After 42 days of the reality show, Kim was named the Teen Big Winner. This was after amassing a total of 626,562 votes (41.4% of the total). Chiu was only the only member in that season to complete the season without being nominated for eviction.

Chiu then joined Star Magic after winning. She appeared in several ABS-CBN shows immediately after. These shows include; First Day High, Aalog-Alog, and Love Spell.

2. Chiu Is a musician as Well

In September 2007, she officially launched her debut album titled Gwa Ai Di. As per PARI, the album is certified Gold.

The title of the album translated directly to ‘I Love You.’ Some of the most popular songs from the project are Crazy in Love and “I’ve Fallen for You”. The latter features Gerald Anderson former housemate from Big Brother.

After the Album’s success, she did not release another album until 2015. The album was titled ‘Chinita Princess.’ She did, however, release a few singles and music videos in that period.

In 2017, she released ‘Chinita Princess: Touch of Your Love’. This was followed by two singles ‘Bawal Lumabas’ and ‘Kimmi’ in 2020 and 2021 respectively.

3. Kimberly Chiu Is a Philanthropist

Using her platform and influence, she promotes and helps various causes. One of these causes is the Win Against Asthma campaign. Having struggled with asthma as a child, Chiu partnered with GSK, to educate and help children with the ailment.

In 2012, Marikina was hit by the cyclone Typhoon Yolanda. Kim was part of the relief efforts playing her part through the red cross. Typhoon Yolanda, one of the most powerful tropical cyclones to date, had affected a large area in the Philippines.

She is also involved in several other project such as funding the Isla Pulo community and the Free Mali Campaign.

4. She is a University of the Philippines Alma Mater

In 2015, Kim Chiu took and successfully passed the UPCAT. The UPCAT is the University of the Philippines College Admission Test. The test is a requirement to enroll in the university. It is administered to all high school graduates looking to join the university, local or foreign.

She then enrolled in the University of the Philippines’s Open University (UPOU). She registered for the business courses program

5. A Top Tax Payer in The Philippines

On 12th July 2013, Nancy Carvajal of the Philippine Daily Inquirer exposed the Pork Barrel tax Scandal. The scandal involved the alleged misuse of public funds and taxes by members of the Congress of the Philippines.

The exposure of this scandal led to a public outcry, with Kim involved. In a press conference on August 28th, 2013, she would address the issue showing her disproval of the situation.

She said; “The money isn’t a joke […] we pay so much tax and we don’t know where it’s going.” The Bureau of Internal Revenue revealed that Chiu ranked as the 131st top taxpayer in the country. In 2013, her income taxes totaled just over ₱9.3M.

6. Had A Dysfunctional Relationship with Her Parents

Born on 19th April 1990, Kim is the fourth of five children born to William and Louella Chiu. William, her father was a Chinese businessman while her mother was a Philippine Sangley (Chinese ancestry).

Kim’s parents separated in 1998 which led to a disconnect between Kim and them. After the split, the children, Kim included, were raised by their paternal grandmother. They moved a lot with their grandmother.

She reconciled with her father in 2013, after years of estrangement. Her mother fell into a coma in the same year and after hospitalization, she passed away on 23rd June 2013. Chiu debunked rumors of animosity between her and her mother during her funeral.

7. She Was Shot At

On March 4th, 2020, Kim Chiu was shot at. This happened along Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City while traveling to tape her series ‘Love Thy Woman.’

It was here that two gunmen on a motorcycle fired shots at the van she was traveling in. The gunmen remain unidentified to date. According to investigators, however, the shooting might have been a case of mistaken identity.

Chiu confirmed these mistaken identity claims. She disclosed that an individual claiming to be the actual target called and apologized to one of her bosses.

8. Kim Chiu Break Through Came In 2009

Kim’s first highly acclaimed acting role came in the Tv series ‘Tayong Dalawa’ in 2009. From the series, she collected several acting awards for the role of Audrey.

Next, in the same year was the movie ‘I Love You, Goodbye’ where she played a villain for the first time. The film was a success, becoming part of Star Cinema’s entries into the Metro Manila Film Festival in 2009.

She then starred in Paano Na Kaya, Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo and Till My Heartaches End in 2010. Some of her first films in her decorated career as an actor.

9. Kim Chiu Is an Award Winner

Chiu’s first award cam in 2007, due to her role in the film Sana Maulit Muli. She was nominated and eventually won both awards that she was nominated for. That is, the 38th Guillermo Mendoza Box Office Awards as Most Promising Female Star and Best New Female TV at the 21st PMPC Star Awards

These two were only the beginning of a very fulfilling career. She is recognized as one of the actresses with the highest number of accolades.

Some of her recent awards are; Best Talent Search Host in 2016, Female Pop Artist of the Year in 2018, and Philippines’ Favorite and Versatile Actress of the Year in 2021.

10. She was Involved in A Controversy About Her Remarks

In 2022, Kim made some remarks, that might have thought would come out as funny. However, the remarks would lead to controversy.

Kim claimed that; “cats are very noisy at night and should be thrown out of hot water.” Little did she know that she is the one who would land in hot water due to the comments.
