“Even so, in our country, the balance has shifted recently. Working on television allows us to reach a larger and more diverse audience. But the cinema still has a special place in our hearts. When you see yourself on the big screen, you feel very special.”

Amidst her concerns about state censorship of the media, Saat is content with her life as a Turkish actress, particularly when compared to actors in other countries. “Sometimes, when I compare myself to other countries, I think to myself, ‘This is so unfair.’ “I would have had a very different status if I had done this job in another country,” she says.

“And I sometimes say, “If I had been born further east and lived in other Muslim countries, I would not have been able to make this profession.” My thoughts aren’t rebellious; they just come as a whimper and stay that way.”

Beren Saat is a Turkish entertainer best known for her portrayal of the unfaithful spouse Bihter Yoreoglu Ziyagil in the emotional drama series ‘Aşk- Memnu,’ for which she received numerous honors and awards, including two Golden Butterfly Awards.

She began her career through TV commercials and is now regarded as one of Turkey’s highest-paid entertainers. Tomris Giritliolu discovered Saat and cast her in her first drama, ‘Aşkmzda lüm Var,’ in 2004.

Her film career began in 2009 with ‘Güz Sancs,’ also known as ‘Agonies of Autumn,’ and has continued with other major planned projects. She has also appeared in several films as a character with a voice.

In 2012, she designed a few tees, and the proceeds from their business were donated to Nar Taneleri Projesi, a charitable organization that teaches vagrant ladies aged 18 to 24. Since 2014, Saat has been married to renowned popular music vocalist Kenan Dogulu.

Beren Saat made her television debut in 2004 with the show ‘Aşkmzda Olum Var.’ After a year, she was cast as the lead in Cemal An’s ‘Aşka Sürgün,’ directed by Mahsun Krmzgul. She played an important role in ‘Hatrla Sevgili,’ a series that revolved around political events in Turkey from 1950 to 1970, alongside Okan Yalabk and Cansel Elçin.

In 2009, she made her feature film debut as the Greek whore Elena in ‘Guz Sancs,’ also known as ‘Torments of Autumn.’ She also appeared in the film ‘Gecenin Kanatlar’ (English title – Wings of the Night) that year. In the Turkish version of ‘Toy Story 3,’ Saat provided the voice of Barbie.

She also appeared as an unfortunate casualty in the arrangement ‘Fatmagul’un Suçu Ne?’ Her next film role was in ‘Rhino Season,’ directed by Iranian executive Bahman Ghobadi.

The film, which was released in 2012, was based on the life of Iranian-Kurdish producer and writer Sadegh Kamangar, who spent more than 25 years in Iranian prisons before his family was informed that he had died. Saat appeared in the film ‘Benim Dünyam,’ a remake of the 2005 Bollywood film ‘Dark,’ in the late spring of 2013.

The play was a watershed moment in Saat’s life: inspired by Yontem’s performance, she decided that when she grew up, she wanted to act… and, more specifically, she wanted to act with him. Her dream came true more than a decade later when she co-starred as the legendary actor’s wife in the TV series Forbidden Love.

From 2008 to 2010, Beren Saat played Bihter Yoreoglu Ziyagil in ‘Aşk- Memnu,’ also known as ‘Illegal Love,’ a sentimental drama about a lady who begins to have feelings for her significant other’s nephew.

The series received positive feedback and became the most watched TV drama in the history of Turkish small screen productions. In 2013, the on-screen character was cast as a vindicator in the show series ‘Intikam,’ a remake of the American TV series ‘Vengeance.’

8. Beren Saat works as a social activist

Saat is almost as well-known for her charitable work as she is for her acting. In 2011, she donated all of the proceeds from her Rexona campaign to “Mor ati,” a women’s shelter foundation. She created a line of t-shirts for Elle magazine in 2012 to benefit Nar Taneleri Projesi (“Pomegranate Seeds Project”), a foundation that educates young orphan girls.

She has also created a calendar for the Health and Education Foundation for Children with Leukemia and appeared in a video for a European Union and Afghanistan’s Ministry of Health project to promote women’s healthy childbirth in Afghanistan.

9. She took part in a talent show

Saat was born in Ankara, Turkey on February 26, 1984. She enrolled in a university course at Bakent University’s Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences after graduating from TED Ankara College Foundation Private High School, but left when she decided to pursue a career in acting.

Her first taste of success came in an acting competition called T14rkiye’nin Yldzlar, where she came in first runner up despite not winning the top prize. She soon began appearing in Tofita commercials.
