Top 10 Fascinating Facts about Robin Shou

Shou Wan-por was born on  July 17, 1960). He is known professionally as Robin Shou,  he is a Hong Kong-American actor, martial artist and stuntman.  Shou was  Hong Kong action star in the late 1980s and early 1990s and has appeared in about 40 movies during his Hong Kong career before he entered Hollywood in 1994.

He is the fourth son of a housewife and a tailor. His family moved to Los Angeles, California, US, when he was 11 years old, and resided in a two-bedroom apartment in what is now known as Koreatown. Shou is 6ft (1.83m) tall and weighs roughly 165lbs (75kg); he has dark eyes. He takes meticulous care of his long, black hair, which is rumored to have mystical powers and the ability to defy gravity.

Robin, a skilled martial artist, won the 1982-83 International Forms Championship and was a member of the National Wu Shu Team. He was awarded the Gold and Silver Medals in Wu Shu as well as the Gold Medal in Weapons in China. In California, he is a four-time Traditional Form Grand Champion. However, competition hardware is not as crucial as software. He learnt the virtues through martial arts, and although wisdom takes its course, martial arts is about learning not to fight. To show his understanding of martial arts while adhering to the real way of the martial arts, it appeared that Robin needed to “fight without fighting,” in the words of Bruce Lee.

2. Forbidden Night was his first American debut

Shou’s first major dramatic role was in the 1990 film Forbidden Nights, in which he co-starred with Melissa Gilbert. Despite being simply a television film, this was his American premiere, and it was undoubtedly a significant step forward for Hollywood. Robin returned to Hong Kong and continued to make films there. He was more meticulous about the roles he was offered by this point. He desired alternative roles, and after nine years, he became bored and refused to continue playing.

3. He  studied civil engineering in California State University

He returned to California State University and earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. He worked in this industry for a year and a half and was persuaded that he wanted a different job because he found computers and electronics uninteresting. He was continually striving to achieve the ideal: finishing school, getting a job, marrying, and so on. He wasn’t happy, and martial arts was the only thing that kept him going. Soon after, he left for Hong Kong, intending to relax and contemplate. Shortly after his arrival, though, he was offered a role as a stuntman in a film. He was offered job after job, and he spent his first two years in Hong Kong playing minor roles in action flicks.

Shou’s filmography includes City War, Tiger Cage 2, Fatal Termination, Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, 18 Fingers of Death!, DOA: Dead or Alive, Death Race, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, Death Race 2, and Death Race 3: Inferno. In addition, he has appeared in episodes of the television shows Yellowthread Street, Soldier Soldier, The Outer Limits, and Cold Case. In 2003, Shou co-wrote, produced, and directed the documentary Red Trousers: The Life of Hong Kong Stuntmen.

5.He took a break from the university to join Wu Shu practitioners

It has been revealed that he did not begin practicing martial arts until he was 19, which was regarded somewhat late by the norms. He enrolled in California State University while simultaneously studying Kenpo (Karate). However, he was dissatisfied with Karate and stopped it immediately. A year later, he came into a group of Wu Shu practitioners who had traveled to Los Angeles from Beijing.

So he dropped out of university just before the commencement of his senior year in 1981, sold his car, and spent the proceeds on a flight to China to study Wu Shu for six months. He didn’t even inform his parents where he was going; his aunt had to write a letter to his mother in Nanjing, China, to let her know Shou was safe.

6. He portrayed Gobei in “Beverly Hills Ninja

Shou played Gobei in “Beverly Hills Ninja” in 1997 and Liu Kang in “Mortal Kombat: Annihilation” the following year. In 1998, he appeared as Major Ronald Neguchi in the television series “The Outer Limits.”

7. He made an appearance in Corey Yuen’s action film “DOA: Dead or Alive”

Shou starred in Corey Yuen’s action film “DOA: Dead or Alive” in 2006. Two years later, he co-starred in the sci-fi film “Death Race” with Jason Statham, Joan Allen, and Tyrese Gibson, and he reprised his role in the film’s sequels, which aired in 2010 and 2014. In 2009, he portrayed Gen in another video game adaptation, “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li,” and the following year, he participated in an episode of the TV series “Cold Case.”

8.He made his voice acting debut as Conroy and Roland Ho

Shou made his acting debut in 2011 as Sunny in the action film “Mortal Enemies,” before making his voice acting debut in 2012 as Conroy and Roland Ho in the video game “Sleeping Dogs.”

9. He loves taking ceramic classes, painting, welding, and even does woodworking

When he’s not working on movies, he enjoys ceramics, painting, welding, and even woodworking. Shou  also trained fellow actress Mila Jovovich for her role in the “Resident Evil” saga.

10. His net worth is  $ 8million

Robin Shou has amassed a sizable fortune as a result of his successful acting career, as well as the Wu Shu tournaments and classes he has taught. As of mid-2020, his net worth is believed to be around $8 million.
