Victoria Peak is the highest point on Hong Kong Island, offering visitors a breath-taking 360-degree view of the city. Due to its elevation, Victoria Peak was a popular residence for British administrators. At 1800 feet above sea level, the peak offers fresh air and an opportunity to avoid the mosquitoes that swarm at sea level. 

The area was so desirable that until 1947, only European residents could live there, meaning Hong Kong Chinese citizens could not live in the area. As there were no roads in the nineteenth century, the wealthy occupants were carried up the mountain in station wagons.

Victoria Peak remains an exclusive neighborhood where only the elite live. Mansions here can cost millions of dollars, indicating that the area has not been overinflated. There is a lot of greenery to enjoy here while taking in the scenery.

2. Walking trails for fresh air

There are many trails to discover if you want to get away from the concrete and enjoy the natural beauty of the peak. The Morning Trail, an alternative to the tram, is among the choices. This is a fantastic hike up the peak, with spectacular views of the city along the way.

If you don’t want to impose yourself physically, take the Circle Walk, which circles the city center. It winds through banyan trees and past so many waterfalls. The bright red Peak Tram, which opened in 1888, is one of the world’s oldest funiculars – and easily Asia’s most well-known. The steep route to the top can be pleasant on a clear day, but it’s best to plan ahead.

On hot days, the line at the entrance (the Garden Road Peak Tram Lower Terminus) is known to wrap around the corner, providing no shade. If you’re determined to take the ride, we recommend arriving early — before 10 a.m.

Is the line too long? A taxi ride around the mountainside benefits with spectacular views.

Near the lower terminus, there is an appropriately named Peak Tram Historical Gallery for history buffs. The free museums trace the history of the cable car from the nineteenth century to the present.

You should plan your visit to Victoria Peak around what you want to do there. If you’re only going for the scenery, we recommend going early in the morning or late at night, with the latter providing stunning views of the lit skyline.

Although, during the day, you can enjoy the views of the harbor. If you’re looking forward to a hike, start early and catch the sunrise as you ascend.

For a romantic evening with your significant other, you can combine the dining options with the views. If you want to explore the peak, you should go during the day.

5. A quick bite to eat as you explore

The Peak is not really known for its cuisine prowess, but there are a few spots worth a visit if all that walking has worked up an appetite.

The Peak Lookout Restaurant is the most historically significant. This restaurant was originally built in 1901 as a stable for sedan chairs. The Peak Cafe, which later became the Peak Lookout, first opened its doors in 1947.

Today, the restaurant has a large outdoor terrace with views of Hong Kong’s south side, inviting wood interiors, historic photographs, and a worldwide menu that includes everything from oysters to quesadillas.

6. Victoria Peak attractions worth a visit

The visit to Victoria Peak can be paired with other nearby attractions in Hong Kong. Make the most of your trip by visiting a few of these locations that highlight the uniqueness of Hong Kong’s heritage.

Begin with a visit to the Mo Man Temple, a peaceful sanctuary of tranquility even when crowded. The temple is famous for the gods of war and literature, which is why you will see students praying here. Obey temple decorum and take in the incense-filled ambience.

If you’re visiting Victoria Peak Hong Kong at night, make your way to Lan Kwai Fong, Hong Kong’s must-see nightlife district. The small square of streets is densely packed with bars, restaurants, and the city’s most popular nightclubs. Don’t forget to go to SoHo, Knutsford Terrace, and Wan Chai.

7. Historic sites around the area

Looking to continue the natural scene? After that, proceed to Hong Kong Park. This man-made oasis, built in 1991, includes water bodies, a greenhouse, and an aviary set in a lush green setting. Relax by visiting the Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware and the Hong Kong Visual Art Centre.

Perhaps one of the most unusual things to do in Hong Kong, seeing these magnificent sea mammals is a surreal experience. They are literally a pale pink color, thus the name.

There are many tour operators that offer pink dolphin tours, but we strongly advise you to choose one that is run honestly. The pink dolphin colony’s numbers have declined, and not all tour operators work in a way that is beneficial to the dolphin community.

10. Fresh egg waffles from local vendors

These waffles were created out of necessity by a local cook who used up some leftover ingredients to make waffles. The resulting dish has gained popularity and can now be found throughout the city.
