Alice Krige was born Alice Maud Krige on 28 June 1954. She is a White South African born in Upington, Cape Province, South Africa. She is the daughter of Patricia Krige and Louis Krige. She grew up in Port Elizabeth where her parents later moved to. She described her family as a happy family.

Alice attended Rhodes University in Grahamstown, South Africa. She is a South African actress and producer. She played the dual role of Eva Galli/ Alma Mobley in Ghost story and the Borg Queen in Star Trek: First Contact in 1996. In the article are the top ten facts about Alice Krige.

1. She came from a working-class family

Patricia Krige, her mother was a professor of psychology. Psychology is the scientific study of mind and behavior. It includes the study of conscious and unconscious phenomena, including feelings and thoughts. His father Louis was a physician. A physician a general term for a doctor who has earned a medical degree. Physicians work to maintain, promote, and restore health by studying, diagnosing, and treating injuries and diseases.

2. Alice Krige had two brothers

Alice Krige happened to be the only girl among the three Kriges. The names of the two brothers are not yet known but their professions are known. One of the brothers became a physician just like their father and the other became a professor of surgery.

When Alice joined Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa, she initially was intending to pursue a course in clinical psychology. Alice though started attending classes in acting at the institution and got carried away.

Therefore, Alice turned to act as her dream career. She completed a Bachelor of Arts degree and a BA Hons degree in drama with distinction. Later Alice went to London to attend the Central School of Speech and Drama.

4. Alice made her debut in filmography in 1979

Alice made her professional debut on British television in 1979. She appeared in the Television movie A Tale of Two Cities as Lucie Manette. A Tale of Two Cities is an 1859 historical novel by Charles Dickens, set in London, and Paris before and during the French Revolution.

5. Alice’s first feature film was Chariots of Fire

Chariots of fire is a 1981 British historical sports drama directed by Hugh Hudson. It is written by Colin Welland and produced by David Puttnam. It is based on a true story of two British athletes in the 1942 Olympics: Erick Liddell and Harold Abrahams.

The two Erick a Scottish Christian and Harold an English Jew-run to overcome prejudice. Alice Krige is cast in the film as Sybil Gordon, a D’Oyly Carte soprano and Abraham’s fiancee. However, it is said that the Olympic runner’s fiancee is misidentified as Sybil Gordon which is portrayed by Alice Krige.

6. She played numerous roles in Star Trek

In Star Trek: First contact, Alice played the role of the Borg Queen. In the role, she tries to assimilate the earth into the Borg collective. She won Best Supporting Actress at the 1997 Saturn Awards for the Borg Queen role.

Kruge played the same role in Star Trek: Amanda II and in Star Trek: Voyager series finale  “Endgame” in 2001. In 2021, Krige reprised her role as the Borg Queen in Voice only for the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks.

7. She featured in Arms and the Man

Arms and the Man is a comedy by George Bernard Shaw. The play was first produced on 21 April 1894 at the Avenue Theatre and published in 1898 as part of Shaw’s Plays Pleasant volume. The film is a humorous play showing the futility of war and deals comedically with the hypocrisies of human nature.

Alice earned a Plays and Players Award, as well as the Laurence Olivier Award for most promising Newcomer. This was after she appeared in the 1981 West End theatre production Arms and the Man.

8. Alice Krige produced Jail Caesar

Apart from the many instances that have been brought where Alice appeared as an actress, don’t also forget that her career involves the production of films. Jail Caesar won an award. The 2012 British-South African-Canadian historical drama was written and directed by Paul Schoolman.

Starring in the movie is none other than John Kani, Dereck Jacobi, and Alice Krige. The movie is filmed in three working prisons with several hundred serving prisoners. The film is an exploration of the little-known adolescence of Julius Caesar.

9. Alice Krige is married

Krige maried writer and director Paul Schoolman in 1988. For those who haven’t witnessed the work of Paul Schoolman, he is the writer and director of Jail Caesar. It is evident that the movie was a family collaboration since Schoolman wrote and directed the film and Alice Krige, produced the film.

10. She received the Special Jury Award in 2015

Alice received the Special Jury Award at the International Film Festival for Peace, Inspiration, and Equality in Jakarta. However, she was not the only movie star who received the award. Andy Garcia a Jimmy Carter also received the award.

She received the award for her performance in the film Shingetsu. In the film, Alice plays a war-traumatized surgeon of Doctors Without Borders opposite Gunter Singer.
