Wendy Crewson, Wendy Jane Crewson in full, is a Canadian actress and producer. She was born on May 9th, 1956 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. She is the daughter of June Doreen and Robert Binnie Crewson.

 Crewson is a versatile actor who has played many different characters in the course of her career. She has worked on some famous films such as The Santa Clause (1994) and its two sequels and The 6th Day (2000) among others. She has also made memorable appearances in television series such as 24 and the Reaper.

1. She Is A Formally Trained Actress

Jane Crewson is inarguably and very talented actress. However, on top of the talent, she is a schooled and professionally trained actress.

Crewson attended Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. While in the university she was a performer in the theatre. She even went on to win the Lorne Greene Award for her outstanding performances and work in the theatre.

After graduating from Queen’s University, Crewson moved to London. Here she enrolled and studied at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art.

Throughout the 1980s, Crewson became a regular face on local Canadian television. 1991 was the year that she caught her break. She starred in the 1991 film titled the doctor which did wonders for her reputation.

From then on, she built up her resume by appearing in some big Hollywood productions. Some of her significant films were The Good Son (1993), and Corrina, Corrina (1994). She also maintained consistent appearances on local television and the small screen.

When Wendy came out as a lesbian in December 2014, many people were stunned. She had, however, already come out to her family and friends years prior. Wendy’s coming out has the potential to boost the self-assurance of other LGBTQ+ people because she is a prominent figure in the community. According to Straight, Wendy stated, “I truly feel that it’s our obligation as adults in high-profile positions to let kids know it gets better. After returning from England, Crewson was able to land a lead acting role in the 1980 movie War Brides. In what was her debut performance, she put in a captivating performance and was rewarded with a nomination for the ACTRA Awards.

Her first award came in 1984 for her performance in the final season of Home Fires. Crewson received the ACTRA Award for Best Actress in the drama series. Over the course of her long career, Crewson has received several Gemini Awards nominations.

She has won the Gemini Award six times. For her role in Due South (1998), ReGenesis (2007), At the End of the Day: The Sue Rodriguez Story (1999), The Many Trials of One Jane Doe (2002), and The Man Who Lost Himself (2005).

Crewson has also won two Canadian Screen Awards. Since she is still active in the industry, she will almost surely garner more awards.

Before her coming out announcement in 2014, Crewson identified as a straight woman. In 1988, Crewson married American film, stage, and TV actor Michael Murphy. The two were married for 21 years and divorced officially in 2009.

The two were blessed with two children during their marriage. The firstborn is a daughter, Maggie Murphy born in 1989. The second born is a son, Jack Murphy born in 1992.

Crewson has endorsed and served as a spokesman for the ALS Society of Alberta and its annual Betty’s Run for ALS since she portrayed the late Sue Rodriguez on television (named in honor of the late Betty Norman of Calgary). For her efforts on behalf of ALS patients, she received the Gemini Humanitarian Award in 2002.

 A vocal supporter of Canadian film and television, Crewson won the 2007 ACTRA Toronto Award of Excellence for her noteworthy body of work and union activity. In 2009, she petitioned Parliament to stop funding cuts to the CBC.
