About this tour
Fener and Balat neighbourhoods, set along the banks of the Golden Horn, were once home to the Jewish and Greek populations of Istanbul. Now on the verge of change, these historical neighbourhoods are charming with their cobblestone streets, wooden houses, synagogues, churches and the famous Phanar Greek Orthodox School.
The districts of Fener, and Balat have the richest history in Istanbul. They are also on the list of UNESCO heritage sites, and yet it is still a region rarely visited by tourists. Follow your guide and lose yourself in these areas wandering around in a unique atmosphere. The colourful Ottoman houses, some of which are perfectly restored, the religious buildings, the small craftsmen, the merchants, the children playing in the street and the linen hanging from the windows give this area a unique charm, of time that will allow you to discover a new side of Istanbul.
