Overview
This tour will take you to the magnificent coastal region of the Costa Brava on a full-day trip to Girona and Calella de Palafrugell from Barcelona. You will enjoy the charming Catalan countryside, and experience the atmospheric streets of Girona’s medieval Old Town.
You will be in awe of the conspicuous fortresses of Pals, take in the seaside charm of rural fishing village Calella de Palafrugell, and adore the spectacular landscapes of Begur and the former home of an ancient castle. The guide will give you personalized attention on this small-group tour.
You will board a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle, and admire the picturesque Catalan countryside as you travel toward your first stop, the ancient city of Girona. Through the ride, your guide will entertain you with tales dating back to Girona’s 76 BC origin. Once arrived, the tour of the medieval metropolis’ rich architectural smorgasbord begins.
There will be some relaxing free time to see the great Cathedral, founded in 1038 on the site of a former Mosque. There you will get to admire the spectacular Roman walls that defended the city from attackers. You will also have the option of traveling back in time at one of Girona’s comprehensive museums, thereafter return to the vehicle and then head to Pals, a small city that grew from the foreboding fortress at its center.
The guide will then take you to the charming fishing village of Calella de Palafrugell, where you will gaze at the rolling hillside scenery as you travel past Begur, a site of ancient castle ruins. On arrival in Calella de Palafrugell, you will enjoy the scenic whitewashed houses, perfect sandy beaches, and set off to explore the rugged coastline for a swim. It is here that you will get to sample a number of traditional restaurants, perfect for a delicious lunch. As you walk along the beach, dip your toes in the cool ocean. Later on, you will reconvene with the group and relax during the journey back to Barcelona.
