About this tour
Step out of Amsterdam for a few hours and discover the typical Dutch countryside outside the capital. Enjoy the drive through a picture-perfect landscape crisscrossed with canals, see authentic wooden houses, windmills and fishing villages and witness the traditional crafts of yore.
Your journey starts off at the Amsterdam Central Station to the picturesque village of Zaanse Schans famous for its original buildings, that capture the 17th and 18th centuries of Dutch life. You’ll see the historic shipyard and windmills, and pay a visit to a shoemaker who works with wood to watch his clog-making techniques first-hand! You’ll also see the canals and greenery of rural life in the Netherlands and learn about the rich history of the area. The trip has more stops Waterland area where you get to explore some of Holland’s most picturesque villages: Volendam, & Marken. Visit a cheese farm for a demonstration and a sampling of its dairy production in Volendam.
