Caleb is found in the book of Numbers, he is introduced when Moses needed twelve spies to explore the land of Cannan. 2. Caleb was Chosen to Be a Spy

In the second year after the Israelites left Egypt and entered the wilderness. Moses sent twelve spies one from each tribe in order to explore the land of Canaan and report back on what they found. Caleb was the chosen spy from the tribe of Judah. Even though all the other spies saw that the land was too difficult to conquer, Caleb and Joshua believed that it was possible because God was with them.

3. He is mentioned in a Number of Books

Caleb’s story doesn’t end in the book of Numbers, he is also mentioned in Joshua and Judges. In the book of Numbers, he is introduced as the son of Jephunneh from the tribe of Judah. In Joshua Chapter 14, he is identified as the legendary spy leader from the tribe of Judah 45 years earlier. While in the book of Judges, he is barely talked about as a spy.

Caleb is noted for being among the few Israelites who had faith in God and his promises. His faith is evident in his willingness to stand up for what he believed in even though many people disagreed with him. Caleb was courageous and had hope that the Israelites would go into Canann because God had spoken. Through his faith in God, Christians are inspired to stand by what we believe in even when others disagree with us.

5. He Helped Settle the Israelites in Canaan

Aside from helping the Israelites fight against the Canaanites, Caleb was a wise man who had good advice that helped the Israelites to make good decisions. Caleb had a daughter called Achsah who was betrothed to the man who would conquer the city of Debir. Some of Caleb’s children who are recorded include Iru, Elah, and Naam.

Due to the fact that many Israelites didn’t believe that God would lead them to Canaan, they were left to wander in the wilderness for forty years. It should be noted that by this time many people had died by the time the battle began. This made Caleb to be among the few who were allowed to enter Canaan after that long. When he entered Canaan, Caleb was 85 years old.

After forty years of wandering in the wilderness, Caleb was able to lead his tribe into the battle against the Canaanites. By the time the battle began, Caleb was 85 years old but was as strong as ever.
