Entrepreneurship in the late nineteenth century was for producing capitalists, innovators, prospectors, financiers who could provide funding, and businessmen who were not only creating startups but also expanding pre-existing businesses. However, in the current history, the tech industry has probably been the most well-known for producing successful entrepreneurs.

1. Thomas Edison

Thomas Edison is known around the world for inventing a practical and commercially successful incandescent electric light bulb. He was a very persistent and consistent entrepreneur, and the reason being when he was inventing the lightbulb, he is said to have tried it over 1000 ways. He is also known for helping in inventing entire industries which include electric, music, battery industries, picture, and motion.

Other than inventing he is remembered to have been granted more patents by the U.S Patent and trademark office than any other person. He is remembered to have over 100 businesses and partnerships some run today.

2. Helena Rubinstein

Helena Rubinstein was a businesswoman, art collector, and philanthropist of Polish and American descent. She was the founder and eponym of Helena Rubinstein Incorporated cosmetics company, which made her one of the world’s wealthiest women. Additionally, she also pioneered the use of pseudoscience in marketing.
However, in honor of Helena the Manhattan Jewish Museum hosted the exhibition “Helena Rubinstein: Beauty Is Power.” It was the first museum exhibition devoted to Rubinstein. The exhibition lasted from October 31, 2014, to March 22, 2015.

Henry Ford was not only an American business magnate and industrialist but was also the creator of the assembly line technique of mass production. Additionally, he was the founder of Ford Motor Company. Ford invented the first automobile that middle-class Americans could afford, and his transformation of the automobile from an expensive luxury to an affordable mode of transportation had a profound impact on the landscape of the twentieth century.
However, the Model T automobile was introduced by Henry Ford in 1908 and revolutionized both transportation and American industry. As the sole owner of Ford Motor Company, he became one of the world’s richest and most well-known people. He is credited with “Fordism,” the mass production of low-cost goods combined with high worker wages.
During World War I, Ford, like other automobile companies, entered the aviation business by producing Liberty engines. It returned to auto manufacturing after the war until 1925, when Ford purchased the Stout Metal Airplane Company.

4. Willis Carrier

Willis Carrier is an entrepreneur who is known to have invented modern air conditioning in 1902 and it was advantageous to countless industries which improved lives and transformed the world greatly. He was the first entrepreneur to take his business as it went all through the world to help industries.

He was awarded an engineering degree by Lehigh University in 1935 and an honorary Doctor of Letters degree by Alfred University in 1942 for his contributions to science and industry; Carrier was awarded the Frank P. Brown Medal in 1942; and was inducted posthumously into the National Inventors Hall of Fame (1985) and the Buffalo Science Museum Hall of Fame (1985). (2008).

5. Ken Olsen

Ken Olsen was an American entrepreneur CEO and founder of Digital Equipment Corporation. Ken strongly believed in the importance of research and development and pioneered the development of numerous Digital Equipment Corporation products which included the DEC Alpha chip, and the DEC VAX computer.

While he was a student, he was among the team that developed air defense technology and core memory, the precursor which today is RAM. His leadership and entrepreneurial philosophy have been the foundation for today’s information and computer networking industry.

6. Sam Walton

Sam Walton was an American entrepreneur who founded Walmart retail chain in 1962. He began has as a sales trainee at a JC Penney store and the age of 27 he opened his retail shop. Through hard work, persistence, and charging items at a lower price than his competitors he tripled his business, and in 1950, he unwillingly sold the business to the landlord who refused to renew his lease but he did not give up.

He looked for another shop and named it Walton’s Five & Dime and by 1960 he owned 15 stores. Later in life, he opened his first Walmart with help of his brother. Walmart grew since then throughout Arkansas and Missouri. By the end of 1980, Walton had 276 stores and the rate of opening the store was about 100 per year.

Steve jobs were the CEO and the founder of Apple Inc. he is known to have revolutionized the technology industry. With a lot of attempts and failures, he did not give up on his dream. It is said that at a young age, he had an interest in computers.

He was a visionary leader who brought teams together and also worked with other people including his friend Wozniak, also worked with a team of engineers, designers, and marketers to create products that would change the world and all who worked with him said that he was smart. During his tenure at Microsoft, Gates held the positions of chairman, CEO, president, and chief software architect, as well as being the company’s largest individual shareholder until May 2014. He was a key figure in the microcomputer revolution of the 1970s and 1980s. Additionally, Gates has an estimated net worth of US$113 billion as of February 2023, making him the world’s fourth richest person.

However, Bezos is the third-wealthiest person in the world, with a net worth of US$128 billion as of February 2023, and was the wealthiest from 2017 to 2021, according to both Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index and Forbes.
