10 Best Bank Robbery TV Series to Watch
Nothing is more exhilarating than binge-watching an anticipated bank heist series. I am a huge fan of these and I could name a million reasons why. The compelling storylines, action-packed scenes, unforeseen plot twists, and how can forget the cliffhangers?
Okay, those weren’t a million but they are more than enough reasons to hop on at least two of these heist series. Maybe even three.
It’s true that films based on bank robberies aren’t exactly new. But, the probability of them being similar is zero. Each of these series steers its storyline in a diverse direction that will keep you intrigued.
Here is a list of the top five-star-rated bank robbery TV series.
1. La Casa de Papel/Money Heist (2017-2021)
La Casa de Papel is one of the most-watched TV series of all time. I mean, the show has a dedicated Wikipedia page for its 62 nominations and the 29 awards received since its release.
The enthralling five-season series narrates the heist of the Royal Mint of Spain and the Bank of Spain meticulously planned by The Professor. His brilliant idea is executed by a gang of seven going under pseudo names Tokyo, Rio, Berlin, Nairobi, Moscow, Denver, and Helsinki. Lisbon and Stockholm join the team later on in the season.
The plot twists in the series will surely blow your mind and have you hooked to your screen! By the end of season one, you’ll probably be geared up with your Dali mask in solidarity eager to watch the remaining episodes.

2. The Great Robbery of Brazil’s Central Bank (2022)

The crime miniseries is based on the true story of one of the largest bank heists in Brazil and world history. In August 2005, Fortalenza Central Bank was invaded by a gang of 25 thieves, brilliant thieves to be exact.
The burglars accessed the bank vault via a tunnel dug on a property within arm’s reach from the Bank. They covered up the suspicious manual work with claims of it being part of their landscaping business.
After three months of digging a 78-meter tunnel, the gang manages to access the vault’s floor using the passage. Bull’s eye!

3. El robo del siglo/The Great Heist (2020)
El robo del siglo is a crime, drama, and thriller Colombian mini-series based on an actual 1994 bank robbery in Valledupar, Colombia. The show stars the famous Andres Parra Medina, who is known for his role as Pablo Escobar in Pablo Escobar: The Drug Lord.
In El robo del siglo, Chayo recruits his long-time crime partner Molina in planning a robbery at the Bank of the Republic in Valledupar. The heist involves a gang of twenty-six including corrupt police officers. They successfully escape with 24 million pesos (equivalent to USD 33 million).
4. The Kill Point (2007)

After retiring from the army, Jake Mendez and other ex-sergeants gang up to rob the Three Rivers Bank. The heist at Pittsburgh ends up in a shoot-out involving the police and private security.
When their getaway vehicle and the assigned driver are injured, the gang retreats and regroups at the bank where clientele are held hostage. Captain Horst Cali, a police negotiator, steps in to salvage the situation at hand.

5. Daylight Robbery (1999-2000)
If you are a fan of NBC’s Good Girls or the film Set It Off, then Daylight Robbery is right up your alley. The series is based on the story of Kathy, Carol, Val, and Paula a group of housewives living in Essex. The four women share common struggles in their personal lives and soon find themselves joining a life of crime.
The gang begins partaking in petty theft before planning and robbing Kathy’s bank. The burglars are caught in a gun exchange with the local police. Though successful, the money obtained from the heist is reduced to ashes after an accidental fire at Kathy’s apartment.
Kathy and Paula escape to Miami and join two other criminal housewives, Harriet and Chanice.
6. The Nine (2006-2007)
When Lucas and Randall rob the Fidelity National Bank, they hold 9 people hostage in a 52-hour heist. The two burglars are arrested and jailed while the nine strangers form a lifelong bond after the ordeal.
The aftermath of the heist continues to hunt the hostages except for Felica, who consequentially suffers from amnesia. As they explore their friendships, some discover they were connected prior to the robbery.
7. Evil Genius (2018)

Evil Genius is a four-part Netflix series based on a high-profile case of a pizza delivery employee, Brian Wells. The shocking docuseries unveils details of the heist at the PNC Bank and the demise of Brian.
Before blowing up in shreds from an explosive underneath his shirt, Wells informs the authorities that he is merely being used as a pawn. He knew nothing about the robbery and had only received instruction to get USD 250,000 from the bank.
Brian gets to live if he successfully delivers the stolen money to his boss. Unluckily, the authorities get a hold of him before his escape. His bomb goes off 20 minutes after his arrest.

8. 54 Hours: The Gladbeck Hostage Crisis (2018)

The miniseries was based on a true story that occurred in Gladbeck, Western Germany. On August 1988, Hans-Jurgen and Dieter stormed into Deutsche Bank armed and ready to steal a lumpsum amount of cash.
The burglars held two bank employees hostage for what would soon become a 54-hour police pursuit. The gut-wrenching chase resulted in the death of the two hostages. Germans pointed fingers at the police and media houses who according to them, escalated the situation.
The two-part 54 Hours: Gladbeck Hostage Crisis series unpacks the whole story from the bank heist to the arrest of the perpetrators. It is a definite must-watch.
9. Prime Suspect 1973 (2017)
In Prime Suspect 1973, inmate Clifford Bentley orchestrates a bank robbery for Clay Whiteley, a kingpin in organized crime. Bentley’s wife is mugged by Clay’s men as a form of threat and his sons are tasked with executing the heist.
Meanwhile, an ongoing investigation into the murder of 17-year-old Julie sends the police on a door-to-door investigation. They land on the Bentley household whose robbery plans are almost discovered. Officer Bradfield becomes suspicious and decides to follow the family’s trails.

10. Salamander (2012)
Salamander is a series adaptation of a Bavo Dhooge novel. The Belgium TV series was released in December 2012 with its last episode airing on 11th March 2018.
In the series, the bank robbery of over 60 deposit boxes at Jonkhere Private Bank rattles prominent public figures in Brussels. The authorities keep the heist under wraps to avoid a public scandal.
Inspector Paul Gerardi swings into action cautiously investigating the robbery. His findings open a can of worms as he becomes the target of the two groups, the authorities, and the criminal gang.
