They have been tested once and again with different kids and yes, they do like these ideas. Here they are all laid out for you so you can enjoy your vacation as a family.

What to Do with children in Lisbon

Belem area

One great thing to do with your children in Lisbon is to visit the Belém area. Kids love it as it is a wide open space with beautiful gardens by the river. Here, you can visit the Planetarium, the Jeronimos Monastery and the Tower of Belem and try out the famous custard tarts! Join us for the Belém tour with your kids and spend your afternoon relaxing in the Belém gardens or at the Planetarium. Learn more about our Belém tour here.

Oceanarium

oceanarium

One of the best things to do with children in Lisbon that your kids will love is visiting the oceanarium. Not only is it renowned internationally, it is now hosting an amazing exhibition by a Japanese underwater landscape artist: Underwater Forests, by Takashi Amano. Kids love it because you can see different species of sea animals and even… sleep with sharks! This is just one of the many children-friendly activities the Oceanarium hosts. I’m still to learn of a kid who did not like going here, so it’s a safe bet with your children.

Pavilhão do Conhecimento

If you’re wondering what to do in Lisbon with your children, this is my ultimate favorite idea ever! I loved it as a kid, as a teenager and whenever I’m watching over younger kids, this is where I take them: the Science Pavilion/Museum. If you ever thought how physics can be fun, your answer is in this place. Everything here is interactive, you learn by experimenting and you can make a ball float in the air, create a tornado or ride a bicycle on a string. Great fun for kids and adults, I cannot recommend this enough!

Jardim Zoológico de Lisboa

Another thing to do with children in Lisbon that your kids will love is visiting the Zoo. Which kid doesn’t like visiting the Zoo? This is slightly in the outskirts of the city, but Lisbon is quite small and you can get there easily with the Blue Line on the subway. At the Lisbon Zoo they have dolphin and reptile shows, restaurants and carousels. It’s good fun for everyone.

Natural History Museum

A great thing to do with children in Lisbon that your kids will love is to visit the Natural History Museum. The only thing that beats visiting the zoo is to see dinosaurs! The Natural history Museum in Lisbon has created a new project for children and they have free admission for children under the age of six. Located in one of the hills of Lisbon, you can have lunch nearby or an evening meal.

St George’s Castle

Visiting St. George’s Castle is a great thing to do with your children in Lisbon. Your kids will love it. It is a very well preserved castle as it was recovered in the late 20th century, so you can actually see how the walls were built. It is an extremely fun place for kids as they get to discover the old castle and let their imagination loose. After visiting the castle and maybe having lunch in the restaurants around, you can join us in our Alfama Tour to discover one of the most interesting neighborhoods in the city. The beach

Finally, a great thing to do with your children in Lisbon that your kids will love is to go to the beach! Here you have a couple of options: you can either stay on the same side of the river and go west to Cascais or Estoril (amazing little beaches you can reach easily by train) or you can go to Costa da Caparica which is on the other side of the river and you can get there by car. Either way, taking a break at the beach is something your kids will love and is definitely a good break from the city with your children.

Have a great trip in Lisbon!
